More About the Author

Writer of 30 non-fiction books on the supernatural, the strange, the Gothic and the gruesome, from 'The Jacobites and the Supernatural' and '101 Things to do with a Stone Circle' to 'Paranormal Perthshire' and 9 titles in 'The Guide to the Mysterious...' series, covering everywhere from the Lake District and Loch Ness to Glasgow and Aberdeen.

He's produced two highly-regarded books on poltergeists, and there are also books on hauntings, Scottish bodysnatchers, the bloody history of Edinburgh, historical murders - oh, he's a cheery chappie all right. His work encompasses folklore, archaeology, local history, parapsychology, Forteana and witchcraft, with a side order of gargoyles and graveyards.

The latest book is 'Zombies From History'. He's currently shadow-boxing with his first novel, a crime thriller set in southwest France. He likes dogs, cats and rock music, and thinks mayonnaise should be made a crime against humanity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good and interesting read 4 July 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has many places of interest and has oodles of historical information. I have lived in Aberdeen all my life and never knew about half of these events. This book is historically based and very well written, lively, funny and certainly not boring. I would recommend this book to anyone, the author has a good sense of humour and it shines through.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very readable account of the folklore of the city of Aberdeen 9 April 2014
By Iain Esslemont - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book tells stories of folklore and myths that have risen in the city, querying some and debunking others. It is entertaining and helps to explain some of the stories that have arisen.
4.0 out of 5 stars First view of Guide to... 14 Feb 2012
By madam red - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
First impressions...Book is slim-ish... 180 actual pages, nice bibliography list, all photos in black and white. Wordy. An immediately useful 'top ten' list, and a breakdown of weird. Ahhh. Must get stuck in, and get back to all with the in depth.
