Russell's Guide to First Edition Prices has been fully revised and updated and now includes over 725 full author bibliographies and contains over 50,000 values for first and collectable editions. It includes classic authors from Jane Austen to Oscar Wilde, detective writers from Eric Ambler to Minette Walters, illustrators from Aubrey Beardsley to Florence Upton, and poets from Richard Aldington to Walt Whitman, in British and American first editions, limited editions and important, collectable reprints. Everyone knows that the first edition of the first Harry Potter book fetches a high price, but there are thousands of other books that collectors will pay good money for, and not just the obvious classics. The Tartarus Press Guide to First Edition Prices will help in the identification of these hidden treasures. All entries have been updated and expanded. Titles published after 1920 are assigned values with and without dust-jackets, almost doubling the total number of suggested values to over 80,000. Each author in the main section of the book is briefly appraised, and a full bibliographical listing of their works given. This edition also includes a number of useful appendices: Single Title Entries, References and Individual Author Bibliographies, Pseudonyms, Winners of The Nobel Prize for Literature, The Booker Prize and the Pulitzer Prize.

The is the 4th version of 1st edition prices by Russell and Tartarus Press I have bought over the last 10 years or so!!
The last version 2008/9 was an excellent book and well worth the wait over the previous version, but this one......!!
Although there are a handful of extra authors included there are so many errors carried over from the previous issue (08/09) that I feel it hasn't been researched properly. Also, there are so many authors where prices haven't changed at all which is strange when you think that over 3 years many authors have experienced value increases at book auctioneers such as Bloomsbury or Dominic Winters!!
You get the feel that this edition has not been thoroughly researched and perhaps there has been a reliance on 'others' to review authors on behalf of those compiling the book.
I would strongly suggest holding on to your money, stick with the better 2008/9 edition and not bother with this one!!
Oh! and I am both a book collector and dealer for over 15 years so know what I am looking for!

The latest and long awaited edition of this Guide to First Edition prices is most welcome to the Second Hand Book Trade and book collectors. Based on 'real' auction prices and not the fantastic and inaccurate prices quoted on the various internet sites it gives clear descriptions of what is and what is not a real first edition (Harry Potter fans take note).
Much enlarged but still missing some collectable authors, why nothing on Paul Gallico? It is an invaluable tool and with the demise of such publications as Book & Magazine Collector a must have for both trade and collectors alike.
