Product Description

Product Description

Eating out in Venice can be a traumatic affair - especially for your wallet - yet the local food has much to offer the inquiring diner. That's why this compact guide to the eateries of the city is so useful. Most of the eateries in the guide offer one - or both - of two distinct eating formats. Some serve traditional Italian sit-down meals of anti-pasto, primo, secondo and dolce (starter, pasta, meat or fish and dessert), while others concentrate on the typically Venetian cicheto, or snack, to be consumed standing at the bar with a glass of wine, known as an ombra. This guide will tell you where to find tasty traditional and innovatice cicheti. To keep explanations in the eatery profiles to a minimum, Venetian and Italian terms are explained in the glossary. The great virtue of this guide is that it tells you how much you can expect to pay in each of the restaurants featured. It is a given that everything in Venice costs more than elsewhere in Italy, but sometimes the disparity can ruin the visitor's digestion. A meal in Venice should be unique experience. "A Guide to the Eateries of Venice" will help you find an eatery that is unforgettable - for the right reasons.

Excellent! 19 Oct 2008

Just got back from Venice and would highly recommend this book - not a duff place in it (confirmed by a Venicean friend). The one on shops by the same author is also very good.

I have been to venice a number of times, and this book has to be the best guide to the great osteria and restaurants that are unfortunatley too rare in this tourist paradise. Basically, take this with you and you are never too far away from a great meal.

Worth the money 11 April 2007
We had this book recommended by the hotel we had booked at. It proved to be very accurate at describing the places and the food and atmosphere. The maps are excellent and very detailed indeed. if you are planning a trip to Venice and don't want a bad experience like some friends of ours had buy the book have a good read. if you are going at a busy time of year book ahead if your Italian is not very good like mine get your hotel to book for you before you arrive just like we did as it was Carnivale week.
