Product Description

Product Description

"The purpose of this work is not so much to gratify the curiosity of the uninitiated as to furnish a guide for the neophytes of the Order, by means of which their progress from grade to grade may be facilitated. Every statement in the book is authentic, as every proficient Mason will admit to himself, if not to be public, as he turns over its pages. The non-Masonic reader, as he peruses them, will perhaps be puzzled to imagine why matters of so little real importance to society at large should have been so industriously concealed for centuries, and still more surprised that society should have been so extremely inquisitive about them."-From the Preface. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Excellent Standard! 29 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
An excellent reference manual for the Brothers. This is more of a textbook of Masonic Practice, than anything. This is not a read for those who are not Mason's, but more of a general textbook for the Fraternity. Non-Mason's will not get much out of it, but the Order will enjoy this as a culmination of Monitors.

Subtle Completeness 5 Mar 1999

Format:Paperback
IMHO this book is "must" reading both for those in Blue Lodges to get a glimpse of the lower level of the York Rite and members of Royal Arch Chapters for a comprehensive review of what they have been shown. An excellent gift for these.

Details masonic rituals from the 19th century, a perfectly interesting read. Other reviewers are quite right in pointing out that rituals are different in different places, and I doubt that the rituals or layouts in this book would be easily recognised today, but still it's an interesting read for a historical view.
