A really good read! 2 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
One might have expected a book that explains the internal workings of the Church of England to be pretty boring! This book isn't! It is an informative and comprehensive guide to many aspects of the C of E, and the author has done a brilliant job of making this book amazingly readable. It is well worth reading by old and new members alike, as well as the outsider who wants to be informed about what the denomination is like.

It is well worth considering as a confirmation present for someone who is joining the church.

We should do this 6 Feb 2011
By JamesS
Format:Paperback
This is a brilliantly written summary of every aspect of the structure and function of the Church of England. Sounds dull? Well, you'd think so. But the well organised structure, clear concise language and well researched content make this a really interesting read.
Every Vicar, Church Warden or church official in the Anglican church should read this book. Though it would provide a positive insight into the workings of the established church of England that would benefit anyone wanting to know more about this national institution.
The book helps explain why the church is how it is, why it is so broad and diverse in making Christianity accessible to people in Britain and, by association, throughout the world. It clarifies what makes it distinct amongst Christian churches. It puts a few myths to bed and raises awareness of the work and activities of the church that are often neglected or misrepresented in the media.
I thoroughly commend it.

This sounds like it should be a really boring book - but it was brilliant. We read it as part of a sort of Christian book club, and everyone found it fascinating! We have people from all sorts of traditions and it was interesting to all! This is a must read for anyone who has anything to do with the Church of England. It answers questions no one asks because they think they should know - but in fact very few people do. Read it and learn!
