Shortlisted for the 1994 Kurt Maschler Award and the Children's Illustrated Book of the Year Award, this is the story of Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare, who discover that love is not an easy thing to measure.
What is particularly nice about this book is that the love is being expressed between 2 male hares. It is never explained whether they are two brothers, father and son, uncle nephew or just dependent friends. For me, this shows that love transcends boy-girl, parent-child relationships... but instead illustrates that when love "is" it just "is". It doesn't need to be explained or to be measured by other people's values.... unconditional, beautiful love is just that... beautiful!!
Sounds soppy? Think this book is just for babies and us girlies?
Wrong on both accounts!
Bought this for my ill partner (middle aged 'roughy toughy' male!!!) and read it to him when he was real poorly. I have never seen anyone smile and brighten up so much in all my life!
What more can I say? It's a 'feel good' book for adults and children alike.
You love someone? Just buy - you'll love it, they'll love, you'll both love it together!
Go on, give it a try!
