Product Description

Gudrun's Kitchen The youngest of a large Norwegian immigrant family, Gudrun Thue Sandvold was known for her beaming blue eyes and a reserve that gave way to laughter whenever she got together with her sisters. She took immeasurable pride in her children and grandchildren, kept an exquisite home, and turned the most mundane occasion into a party. And to all who knew her, Gudrun's cooking was the stuff of legend. Pa Full description

Had a peek in the book before I bought it, really loved the fact that they included history and dishes that are actually eaten in Norway today and not just obscure dishes most of the young inhabitants of Norway (or Scandinavia) never even have tasted. I think it is great! My friend loves it =)

Lovely book, interesting and authentic recipes. Only reason I've given it three stars is that it has no photographs which spoils it for me. It would have been lovely to see Gudrun's kitchen/family/garden in pictorial format to make the book more interesting. Shame, but I shall keep and cook from it nonetheless.

Some lovely recipes in this book, great for if you're starting out and looking for some comforting family favourites. It does seem very Americanised in many parts, and quite a few of the recipes can be found for free on the internet, but I still feel this was a worthwhile purchase

Love this cookbook and suggested it to my cousin. It brought back so many memories of my mother and grandmother and now I have the recipes to share with my children and grandchildren.

A little bit of Norway! Loved the mix of stories as well. I ordered this for myself, but I plan to order more as gifts.

Food and History 19 Jan. 2012

The charm of this work is the historical/biographical family history, giving me in just a few short minutes new information about the scope of Norwegian immigration. I am delighted to have it, and look forward to experimenting with the recipes.
