Product Description

Product Description

The Way of Tao is the way of harmony with nature, a dynamic balance of yin and yang. Maintaining this balance in your own mind and body will strengthen your immune system and build up your general health. Whereas Western medicine attempts to fix the affected body part or organ when something goes wrong, Chinese medicine takes a holistic and preventative approach and lets you take charge, through diet and exercises, of your mental and physical wellbeing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read, 17 Sep 2002
By
I found this book by pure chance in a book shop, snapped it up and read it right away. Chinese health has always interested me and I've always wanted to find as good a comprehensive guide as possible on the subject. This is one of the best I have read. The whole aspect of diet, health, food treatments and the western diet leading to illnesses, etc are fascinating and worrying.

My copy of the book has loads of pencil notes down the margin because it has just so many facts you want to remember and refer to.
Just see the obesity issues today with our kids - and read the section on the American fat saturated diets etc.

Also the tai chi aspect interests me as a martial artist, and the whole chi meditation side was covered fairly well. It also covers pretty much everything from accupressure, aromatherapy, herbal medicines, cooking Ying and yang foods, to making your own Chinese medicinal pick me ups.
A great book for a health conscious person, or someone who wants to research more into the Chinese health.

Some bits can only be followed if you dont work, or have loads of time on your hands!!!!!
Ive shown it to two friends who purchased their own copies since.
Enjoy it

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb overview of Taoist Health & Well-being, 1 Dec 2001
This review is from: Guarding the Three Treasures (Paperback)
Mr Reid has the gift of being able to present complex issues in a simple way. Through this book, I gained a clearer understanding than ever before of the linkages between seemingly unrelated areas such as the food I eat and the results I gain from my spiritual practise.

This is a book that can be used on many different levels, whether to simply improve health holistically or to make progress with Taoist spiritual aims.
