Book Description

Bestselling author Kathryn Lasky takes flight once more with a brand-new Guardians of Ga'Hoole novel!

Far off in the ice-choked land of the Northern Kingdoms, a young screech owl is marked by destiny. He is Ezylryb, an owl who will rise through the ranks of the Killian Army to become the commander of a battalion of snakes. But although Ezylryb is touched by greatness, his battle-filled life is punctuated by tragedy--from the attack that leaves his father flightless forever, to a terrible betrayal by Ezylryb's own brother. But the young owl--with the support of a snake named Octavia--rises above it all, rises high on strong wings.

For Ezylryb is no ordinary owl.

He's the stuff of legends.

He's a Guardian of Ga'Hoole.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful tale 19 Jan. 2014

I loved this book. I've seen the film Legend of the Guardians but this is the first Guardians book I've read. The book takes the reader on a journey into the world of owls and the life of the legendary Lyze of Kiel. The characters are credible and so is the story, which is a remarkable feat of writing considering the cast is made up completely of owls and snakes with the odd snow leopard here and there.

I've had quite a lot of experience with owls, I've had a life long fascination with them and currently own two, so I can say with confidence that the author has a great deal of knowledge of these wonderful birds and builds this into the story very well. A well written, evocative tale, a children's book which but equally great for adults. Pure escapism.

I am glad Kathryn Lasky didn't end the series. This is a great add on to any owl or wolf lovers collection of books. This book is geat and it really does describe Ezlryb's past along with his other adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fans of the Guardians will not be disappointed 22 Aug. 2013

Kathryn Lasky writes beautifully and has a real talent for the heroic. This book is no exception. My son has loved her books since he was in third grade (he starts seventh grade in two weeks), and he hangs on every word. This prequel is told from the point of view of Soren's great mentor, Ezylryb, and it is everything my son and I wanted it to be.

    LOVE this.

4.0 out of 5 stars The master of the owl world! 24 Aug. 2013
By Linda L. Rosario - Published on

Kathryn Lasky have this perfect mix between fact and fiction where the reader wonders if the fiction is true or the facts are fiction. In this, let say, prequel, of the Guardians, much is reveled about the snakes, Ezylryb, and the war itself. We can know why Ezylryb has this aversion to the war, and all the battler gear itself. The discovery of the importance of the weather and the variety of skills off all the participants in the war defines the future of the shaws. Another world is explored: the snakes'world. And a subtle world is presented: the egg itself. The perceptions of the chicks inside the eggs are amazing. I like it a lot and if i haven't given the whole 5 was because I consider the Ezylryb's brother confession at the end "out of the blue". I will continue buying her Ga'Hoole books till she decides to stop writing them.

I am so happy I preordered this one. Kathryn Lasky brought back the guardian series very well, digging into the history of a well loved owl. The emotions are very well conveyed. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the guardian series. Well done, Lasky.
