Although the actual news content is so much better than anything else I can find, the app is useless.

No auto-sync, frequent failures, hangs crashes. I don't have this sort of problem with any of the other apps I use on the Kindle (i.e. the BBC news app - works very well, but without the quality journalism of the Guardian).

Eventually got so fed up with it, I deleted from my Kindle and tried to unsubscribe ... I'm still being billed!

1.0 out of 5 stars Why no type size adjustment? 15 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase
Extremely disappointed that there is no type-size adjustment here. Chose because sight difficulties make reading guardian newspaper edition very difficult and had assumed would be possible to increase on Kindle edition as can for books and magazines..
Is this fault of Kindle or Guardian? Also no concern about pale grey headings on white background..

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as it seems! 28 July 2014
Verified Purchase
What a good idea, I thought. A Monthly sub of £9.99 for the full seven days on my kindle. So I tried to download it, but no, it did not accept that I had a compatible device. What is Kindle Fire, then? Finally I got something downloaded that gave me the one day subscription. It was inaccessible. I clicked on subscriptions and found that my seven day sub was available not for £9.99 a month, but for £11.99. The offer of £9.99 was for mon-sat only contradicting the offer price.

Very disappointed indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Print Voucher edition subscribers get good value 20 Dec. 2013
By Stephen Griffiths TOP 1000 REVIEWER

As a subscriber to the Print Voucher Edition of the Guardian I was delighted to see the Tablet edition at last becoming available for the Kindle Fire. It had been available for i-Pad users for quite some time and I did rather resent the "favouritism" shown to I-pad users.
However here it is at last and well worth waiting for. If like me you already have a Print Voucher Subscription, you will need to upgrade your subscription to include the Tablet edition. This adds a little extra to your quarterly subscription but it is still much cheaper than buying the print edition at full price at the newsagent on a daily basis.
I calculate (correctly I hope!) that the price of the voucher edition plus the tablet edition is equivalent to saving the cost of buying two full price weekly copies of The Guardian. So really good value, IMHO.
As for the content, well pretty much everything in the print edition is included (along with adverts unfortunately).
Navigation is a breeze and better if you use the App's navigation rather than Kindle Fire back arrow. I am delighted to say that it is now possible to do the crosswords on the Kindle Fire. This became impossible to do with the online version of viewed on the Kindle Fire after the Kindle software vandals "improved" the keyboard with predictive text which could not be switched off. This rendered the online crossword unusable. Well done Kindle Fire software folks. Nice to know you care!
But full marks to the Guardian for a really good looking and easy to use newspaper App.
ADDENDUM to the original review.
Downloading and opening a new daily edition, frequently caused all sorts of stops, restarts and generally unnecessary annoying behaviour and eventual freezing of the App.

1.0 out of 5 stars this is NOT free 8 Aug. 2014

This is not a free app. I am surprised the Guardian going to these lengths to mislead people. Do not download if you want free access

1.0 out of 5 stars Thieving app 15 July 2014

I, like others, cancelled my subscription and removed this app from my kindle for them to still charge me. This is terrible. It isn't a one off, so why are Amazon allowing this?

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait 26 Feb. 2014

Have been waiting for this on kindle fire for a long time. Happy to say goodbye to the archaic Times (archaic in both tech and journalism). Guardian app beautifully designed, fantastically functional, excellently written and fully deserving of the subs. Nice work! Strongly recommend and does not crash my (all-new) kindle fire.

The tablet edition looks good, and the content is good too, but the one thing that will probably stop me confirming my subscription is the lack of an adjustable fonts facility. The typeface is very small - I can read it, but it's very tiring on the eyes. They really need to get this fixed!
