Product Description

CD Description

*Originally from the Isle of Wight, Brit-Funkers Level 42 racked up 230 weeks in the album charts throughout the 80s and early 90s alongside many fondly-remembered hit singles. With core members world-class bass-player (and vocalist) Mark King and Mike Lindup (keyboards), they had hit after hit with their distinctive mix of funky work-outs and plaintive ballads.

*After nine albums on the Polydor label, the band moved to RCA for "Guaranteed", which was released in September 1991 and peaked at # 3 in the UK album charts. It was accompanied by three hit singles in "Guaranteed", "Overtime" and "My Father's Shoes".

*Disc 1 of this Deluxe 2 CD Edition of the album features all the tracks from the LP, CD and cassette of the album.

*Disc 2 contains sixteen bonus tracks. These are all the tracks from all the formats (7", 12" and CD single) of the three singles and includes extended remixes, non-album songs, single edits, and several live versions (including their classic "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up)". The booklet contains lyrics and annotation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not their best, but a good package, 7 Mar 2010
This review is from: Guaranteed (Audio CD)
While Guarenteed isn't a classic Level 42 album, there are some great songs on there - Guaranteed and If You Were Mine being my favourites. I've always thought that the B-Sides of the singles deserved to be on the album itself, and so it's great that Edsel have included a second CD with the original album, so those that didn't buy the singles get to hear All She Wants, At This Great Distance and As Years Go By.

So,while not a classic, still a worthwhile buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally got it right, 27 Nov 2009
This review is from: Guaranteed (Audio CD)
This is easily Level 42's best album, with Staring at the Sun a close second. The album features the awesome Allan Holdsworth on guitar with fabulous musicianship all round. Highlights are the title track, Kinder Eye, Can't help herself, if you were mine and with a little love (ok the second half of the album is the stronger). If you prefer softer, commercial Level 42, stick to World Machine etc but if you are a fusion/funk fan with a love of fabulous musicianship and guitar playing, this is for you.

This is arguably the worst Level 42 album of them all, although it's a close run race with 1988's Staring At The Sun. In terms of a reissue it's nicely executed but note, there is an issue with disc 2. Basically one of the tracks appears twice. Demon Edsel do have a free replacement policy though and I received mine within a day of asking. Musically, two stars, as a package maybe four.
