5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Inexpensive Freesat HD Solution 27 Jan 2010
By Brett H TOP 50 REVIEWER
Having taken delivery of our new LCD TV, apparently capable of great things we then had to acquire the input for it to reach its potential. Since there was an existing satellite dish, but no aerial, Freesat was the way to go and this has been a high quality, inexpensive solution.

The connection is HDMI to HDMI. It appears that this box may or may not have this lead included. Mine did not. Tip - do not go and buy one at Comet or Dixons as they charge the earth. You can get one on Amazon or elsewhere online for a fraction of the price. I suspect the big retailers make a lot of money this way.

Be aware that initially it goes into 'deep thought' mode as it downloads the most recent software. This is a bit like watching paint dry as though it takes about 10 minutes, early on the progress display on the TV does not seem to advance at all. Just be patient - it has not crashed!

The results were stunning. The picture was excellent on the normal channels. Then we tried BBC HD and WOW! It was a picture like I have never seen on a TV before. Every hair, or blade of grass was so clearly defined - not sure if this is why BBC HD seems to specialise in farming programmes!

So a great, economical Freesat solution, very easy to use. Just proves how wrong Sky are on their page which is supposed to demonstrate their HD superiority. Apparently the typical cost of this kit, according to them is £250 for the box and £80 to pay someone to set it up!! And with Sky you have to pay £10 a month extra just to access their HD channels.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK considering the price 12 Mar 2012
I bought this box as it was the cheapest I could find. I had just bought a new house and discovered there was a dish on the roof, so I wanted to test it. The tuner worked nicely and I was up and running right away. Only thing that seems completely broken is the iPlayer support, seems the ethernet port on the box isn't working at all for me, with the ethernet connection port lamp on my router blinking like crazy when I try connecting this Grunding box to it.

Yet considering the price I think its a decent purchase, but be aware that the iPlayer seems broken and the other on-demands services, like ITV Player, are not supported at all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Returned for refund 24 Feb 2013

This unit was not working on HD-it gave an unstable picture and the sound kept dropping out.
Even when connected with a scart lead(not using HD) the unit would stick on a channel and the only way to free it would be to unplug from the electric supply for approx 20 - 30 seconds and then start over. The Grundig "Help Line" was not very helpful,in fact they were not helpful at all.
I am unable to recommend this unit.
