5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have For The 'Guitar Nut'!, 14 Mar 2008
This review is from: Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars: An Identification Guide for American Fretted Instruments (Paperback)
This definitive guide is essential reading for the owner, collector and fan of 'all things guitar'. The illustrations in this book neatly underscore the text with subtle and fascinating illucidation, and both the text and illustrations work beautifully together. If you want or own, say, a Gibson or Fender guitar, this book is for you. If you don't, you'll sure want one, even need one, after reading it! George Gruhn and Walter Carter are world experts on vintage guitars and amps, and can be relied upon for their honesty, decency and integrity. I would certainly say, from personal experience, that they are the first stop in any purchase of vintage gear if you want reliable information. This book confirms that. Thank you George and Walter for a great book and guide, and please let's have a latest edition ASAP!

4.0 out of 5 stars Is it worth buying the 2nd ed.?, 21 Sep 2011
This review is from: Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars: An Identification Guide for American Fretted Instruments (Paperback)
The 1st ed. of this book is superb - worth its weight in gold.

Is it worth buying the 2nd. ed.? Is there much new material in it?

I'd appreciate some advice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor!, 11 May 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars: An Identification Guide for American Fretted Instruments (Paperback)
Sadly, although this is the revised second edition, it's only accurate up to 1999 - so ten years out of date. All the info about what's currently in production is thus completely wrong.

The format of the book is dull with monochrome fuzzy pictures, and it's very hard to use in identifying a particular year of vintage guitar. There are a number of web sites which give better info, better pictures and won't cost you anything. I regret spending the money on this book...
