Rather disappointed with this - it just doesn't seem to grab my 3 year old's interest despite obsessive reading of the book and watching the gruffalo on tv!
The puzzle is attractively packaged and feels good quality, but no enthusiasm. I think this is for a couple of reasons: -it's not got many different colours in it. -I think that she can't "think big" enough for it. She finds puzzles of this size easier if they are of several different animals / figures - she sort of leads on from one thing to the next, breaking up the big puzzle into a series of smaller ones. Which lets face it, is how most people approach big tasks. With this, I think that having one big figure is just too much for her to get her head round. Maybe she'll like it better in 6 month's time - fingers crossed.

2-year-old grandson loves it! It should encourage patience in fitting the right pieces together, he's pleased when it's completed and likes showing it to others.

I gave this puzzle to my 3 year old daughter 3 weeks ago and she can't stop putting it together. She absolutely adores it. She loves to make puzzles, but this one has made her forget all the other ones she has.
I think it's the added physical aspect. Sitting on the floor crawling around to put this pieces in makes it even more fun than a regular puzzle. I was afraid it might be too difficult because of the large area of brown the Gruffalo forms, but with a few small hints the first time she did the puzzle, it turned out there were enough identifying marks on each piece for her to put it together. I only wish there was more of a protective layer of the puzzle. Since it's obviously always on the floor and so big my kid tends to crawl over or step on it sometimes, I'm afraid the picture might get damaged pretty soon. the cardboard itself is pretty sturdy though. No broken pieces yet.
