I've read almost all of the Horrible Histories Gruesome Guides, and out of the four I read (there are six in total) Stratford was my second-favorite. Excellent read. I am a huge history fanatic and an obsessive Shakespeare fan, so this book was heaven for me! One little oddity I noticed was that when it was listing interesting Shakespeare death scenes, it mentioned Richard Ratcliffe in "Richard III" dying in battle. Honestly, Richard III died in battle, too. Onstage. And he was the main character. Ratcliffe's death is only mentioned when they're counting the dead--he's on the list with like eight others, and only mentioned once. he doesn't die onstage, and many people don't even know he dies because it's all mentioned so briefly. I really thought that odd. And then there were a few mistake in their summaries of Shakespeare's plays, but overall an excellent book.
It also taught me lots of other stuff to see in Stratford that I honestly had no idea was in the city. Furthermore, there were lots of hiilarious puns, twisting Shakespeare quotes to sound like potty jokes (Immature, but I swear I have never laughed harder!)
And finally, one more thing I enjoyed about this book, was that it actually was't all about Stratford. I'd say a good 1/3 of the book describes events that occured in villages near Stratford, usually a few miles away. I actually liked that, since it gave us a chance to see other places in this Stratford book. Overall, a great read! Must buy if planning to visit Stratford, too; you'll find out Shakespeare's birthplace isn't the only great sight to see there!
