About the Author
AUTHOR Abi Burlingham lives in Derbyshire, is married and has two children and a Springer Spaniel. She went to school in Leicester, studied English as a mature student and went on to do a degree in History and English Literature. She has been a runner-up in two poetry competitions and has had several children's picture books published.
ILLUSTRATOR Sarah Warburton has been illustrating for nearly thirteen years, working for a large variety of publishers. She lives in Bristol.
My sons and I adored this book and have not stopped reading it since we got it from the library. We have also ordered the previous two books, but this book stands alone without having read the others.
Grub is going to be a dad. The adorable floppy brown dog is a confused father-to-be missing his heavily pregnant mate Tilly. When the pups are born, Grub is still confused and his expressions in the illustrations are highly comical. The pups are adorable and the ending is lovely. My family love these doggies and look forward to reading more. A fab series of books from a very talented children's author and gifted illustrator.

My son's review: I love Grub, he is so funny, and Squeak is my favourite puppy, he is so brave and has huge ears!
Grub's having a hard time understanding why the very pregnant Tilly is so different lately. Grub misses her. Then the puppies arrive. It's a simple story but so beautifully told and reaches right into the heart of the anxiety everyone feels when something changes. I loved the illustrations! I've bought this for my grandson and plan on getting the rest of the Grub series for him now. Wonderful!
A delightful picture book that entranced both my four year old son and eighteen month old daughter.
Abi Burlingham has Ruby tell the story of how her dog, Grub is going to be a dad. It's easy to join in with her excitement through the build up and birth and counting each puppy as it comes out. I really liked though that there was a slightly different angle in that the story focused more on Grub's reaction to the puppies coming along and I think it will encourage children's developing empathy.
Emily in particular was very taken with Grub's Pups and it's easy to understand why. It's a lovely story told in an engaging style and I have to say as well, the illustrations are really sweet and gently humourous.
I'll definitely be getting the first two books, Ruby and Grub and Grub in Love to catch up on Grub's exploits!
