I came to this book via Mr. Wagler's lovely monthly blog and was not disappointed at all. This is a beautifully written, touching and fascinating story. Such a rhythm and cadence to the narrative voice almost as if written to be spoken. Radio producers please note with Ira Wagler you may have someone to top even Garrison Keillor.
Five stars PLUS if I could

Loved reading this book! It was very easy to read. The chapters were short. I just kept on wanting to know what happened next so could hardly leave it down. I felt Ira was being totally honest with his story & I feel it has helped me learn more of the Amish culture which has fascinated me.

This book stands out from others of similar content in that the author goes out of his way to point out again and again that he, personally, had a problem accepting the Amish ways. Although he criticises he also recognises that those who choose the Amish church seem mostly happy with the lives they then lead. It was informative without being pro/anti Amish. I would definitely recommend this if you are interested in a genuine insight into aspects of this way of life.

What a beautiful honest insight into somebody's soul - very touching. I so want Ira to write a follow-up book. I'm going to be the first buyer. I always wanted to know how the old style Amish life is, and with this book I got it, but much more interesting is this personal journey of a seeker. Now I'm reading his blog ....

Very enjoyable reading, learning about Amish life. Frustrations felt by the younger generation. Simple family life with a strong work ethic. Aincient values steeped in tradition. However understand erring of the younger family members always welcomed back into the community
