Product Description

Product Description

It's a daunting task for parents trying to equip their offspring with the resources to cope in an increasingly complex and competitive world. Most of us are so busy simply providing for our kids that it is easy to overlook the basic skills that our children need to have. Not only do you want them to be equipped financially and domestically, you also want them to be safe and aware. "Grow Up!" is a fun, engaging checklist of what every parent should ensure their child knows, including instructions on everything from how to boil an egg, advice on sexual health, alcohol and drugs and tips on managing a budget and handling finances. Speaking directly to parents and children, complete with the teenager's take on life (the author's 14-year-old son will contribute his voice to the book), quotes from celebrities on their experiences when they left home, cartoons, and most importantly with a fun quiz at the end, 'Are you ready to leave home?', this reassuring book will ensure that our children are equipped to survive in the real world.

Both my children, aged 15 and 18, did the quiz at the start which was pitched to make sure they got some questions right and some wrong, ensuring they read on, without feeling useless and clueless. We keep the book in the kitchen, and my children now do all their own laundry, to prove how mature they are. The straightforward practical tips are extremely good, for example on how to clean a loo, and the more sensitive areas are well handled - the sections on sex and drugs are good starting points for discussion.

A really fun book full of practical information which is a good read for parents and teens alike. It's got quizzes at the start of each section which my kids liked. I think anyone would learn something from this from the age of about 10 upwards.
