Book Description

Groo is BACK! And, oddly enough, that might not be the biggest disaster looming over the planet. It seems that things are getting hotter everywhere... that is, in those places where it isn't getting colder than ever before! The usual suspectsSergio Aragones and Mark Evanieronce again join forces to bring you a sidesplitting tale of the world's stupidest barbarian. Unfortunately, there might not be much world left by the end of their story! * ". . . it goes without saying that Aragones' art is wonderful. He hasn't lost a step over the years, and may even be doing the best work of his career here... " * "Commemorating his 25th anniversary, Groo stands tall as a comic icon, and if you've never followed the character before, now is a good time to jump on!" Wizard Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Cool Comic Book 5 Mar. 2010
As someone who had enjoyed Groo the Wanderer comic books in the late 80's early 90's Groo was not new to me. Saw this and thought I would give it a go for old times sake - I have to say, without giving anything away, this is even funnier than I remember it being before.

The quality of the story and art work is first class and the books printing is of a very high quality - much better than the comic books of yesteryear.

All in all Groo is a must read for all comic book fans young or old - This is a particularly funny and enjoyable story.

3.0 out of 5 stars good book but inferior quality paper and binding 21 Feb. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The story and artwork are up to aragones usual standard ,even if it can get a bit preachy at times.
The problem is the inferior binding ,the inner pages fell out of the cover the first time my son read it and then the inner pages fell in two a day later as well.
A shame as a good book is spoiled by cheap materils

5.0 out of 5 stars Groo... As great as ever 6 Mar. 2010
By R. Ramsier - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I didnt find it to be too political, nor did I find it any less funny than previous Groo titles. Ive never found Groo to be overly laugh out loud funny and this volume doent change that. Im still waiting for "the Groo Playground" and whatever happened to "The Groo Treasury Volume 1"

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious satire of present times 18 April 2011
By Roberta - Published on
I have only been a spotty reader of Groo over the years, but picked up this graphic novel used and thought it was just hilarious. It was a great send-up of exactly what is going on in today's world, set in the fantasy kingdoms of Groo's world. We hear a lot about how people may be influencing the climate, but this fictional story practically shows it step by step, hilariously. The different kingdoms are competing in an arms race, which leads to pollution, which leads to an impact on the environment with severe climate changes that threaten to make the international conflicts look paltry by comparison. Written in an accomplished, humorous style with the bumbling barbarian playing the comic relief. The art is just amazing, great crowd scenes and imaginatively-dressed characters all done in a style that looks so deceptively easy to draw. Aragones is a true master of the cartoonists' art. There is a good amount of material at the end in which the writer gives his opinion behind the story, which is very thoroughly thought out.

I would recommend this to people who like graphic novels but thought Groo was just funny fiction (like I did). Also to people who are concerned about the environment and people's impact on it but are not very experienced reading comics or graphic novels. People who just want to be entertained may not know what to think of it (though maybe they will get a better idea of how people can have an impact on this world), and people who think climate change is a hoax will not like it at all and think it is preachy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so funny 24 April 2010
By DK - Published on

The comic had more of a political agenda and irony than it was funny. Groo in the standard comic did more Groo things that make you have a good belly laugh. Having a book like this seemed to give license to develop an agenda which I didn't like.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too preachy 26 Feb. 2010
By Pen Name - Published on
Groo is hilarious. But too often of late, the writers get on a politically-correct "teaching about real world problems" frame of mind, and this is sadly one of those times. Global warming is threatening our planet. OK, we get it. Boring. I'll go watch Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." I don't need to read about it in "Groo." It's just not funny!
