Product Description

Dad woke up in a grrrizzly mood. All morning he groaned and grizzled and grumped. And then he went back to bed! But when I pulled back the covers to see how he was, it wasn't Dad in bed at all...it was a Great Big Grizzly Bear! I should have been frightened, but the grumpy look on its face reminded me of someone...This is the story of how one little boy looks after a very grizzly bear for the day. He brushes his fur (and his smelly teeth!), lets him forage in the fridge and then they zoom into town in a bright red sports car for the best day out ever! At home they have honey sandwiches and a big bear hug and when Mum gets home, everything is back to normal. Or is it?

5.0 out of 5 stars A warm hug of a book, 15 Mar 2010
This review is from: Grizzly Dad (Paperback)
This picture book is ideal for little boys and their gruff and grizzly Dads. After a gruelling start to the day Dad stomps back to bed,(and who could blame him). Mum and the younger children go out - cue Dad and son time. A day of fun and 'bonding' ensues and they clean up the mess together on Mum's return. A lovely warm hug of a book.

4.0 out of 5 stars The counterpart to "When Mum Turned Into A Monster", 3 Aug 2010
By
This review is from: Grizzly Dad (Hardcover)
This is a short humerous story about a grumpy Dad by the Joanna Harrison, the author of "When Mum Turned Into A Monster". This time its Dad whose grumpy ways transform him into a beast. Of the two books, I prefer the monster mum one, but this book is also an excellent story.

In this story Dad wakes up in a bad mood, likely due to the children on top of him fighting over a toy. His mood goes from bad to worse among the general chaos of a house with three children and two pets until he retires to bed "like a bear with a sore head". When his son wakes him later, its not just his head like a bear, he has been transformed into a grizzly.

With Mum and the girls away for the day, the boy spends the day with his grizzly Dad, and they end up having a great time. He decides having a bear for a Dad isn't so bad, but a bear hug transforms Dad back into himself just before Mum comes home. Mum is less then pleased by the messy house, as grizzly Dad really wrecked the place. As Mom calls the place a pigsty, Father and son walk off to start cleaning, but you can see two curly tails growing.

I really like these kind of stories, because they show that even if parents get grumpy at times, they always love their children. As much as I'd like to be a perfect parent, of course i've been grumpy myself before and so has Dad, this shows its normal, and parents really dont mean it, we make mistakes just like children do, but no matter what we always love them, a message I dont think children can hear too often.

I would reccomend this for ages 2-7

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, 1 Sep 2011
By Bethatwork - Published on Amazon.com
This is great book for Dad's to read with their sons. Dad wakes up acting grumpy. So grumpy that he goes back to bed and wakes up a bear! The son and "bear" do crazy bear things together and have a great day ending in a 'bear' hug. I read this every year to my storytime group in the Library and it is checked out frequently.

This one hit a little too close to home for us. Just precious, Daddy even chuckled a bit. My son enjoyed trying to figure out why Dad was "grumpy" in the first place. Worth the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and touching, 7 Aug 2010

This review is from: Grizzly Dad (Hardcover)
EXCELLENT. This book shows the fun side of even the grumpiest dad. Loved the humorous illustrations depicting a busy family household and a dad that can get on his hands and knees and play with his kiddo. Fun and imaginative. Loved the look on Dad's face when he turned into an actual bear. :) -BiblioReads.com
