Get to Grips with French Grammar is a reference book covering the main aspects of French grammar. Topics including nouns, gender, definite and indefinite articles, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and pronouns are explained. There is an extensive section on verbs that gives conjugations of the main tenses of the three groups of regular verbs as well as the most common irregular verbs. More About the Author

I have a degree in Fine Art and later in life studied French with the Open University. I have lived and worked in Paris and taught English Language and Literature abroad for a number of years. I now live in the south of England, which is where I was born and brought up. I give private tuition in French, English and Mathematics to students of all ages. In 2006, together with my elder son Sharif Salah, I published a DVD for beginners learning French entitled "French Premier".

I published my first ebook, "1001 Questions to Test Your French," in October 2012 and followed this up in January 2013 with a reference book entitled "Get to Grips with French Grammar," which should be helpful to anyone puzzled by the grammar questions in the first book. A month later came the "Mini French Phrase Book," and then "1001 Questions to Test Your English" followed in April 2013. I will also be bringing out a book entitled "L'Anglais en 1001 Questions," the reverse of my first book, for French speakers learning English.

In recent years I have published a number of articles on French grammar and vocabulary, poetry analysis and various other topics on Helium.com, where I am Channel Manager for UK Destinations in the Travel Channel. In 2011 I was nominated as Travel Photographer of the Year on Igougo.com, where I contribute reviews as well as photographs. I am also an editor and contributing member on the travel site trivago.co.uk.

Having lived abroad for so many years, I now enjoy spending my holidays discovering parts of the UK that I haven't visited before, such as Cornwall and Dartmoor. My camera is always with me.

Get to Grips with French Grammar is a real tour de force but at the same time easily accessible. It is comprehensive in its coverage and goes from the very basics of articles and noun genders to the more exotic emphatic pronouns, which I, myself, had not given much thought to.

The verb section is also excellent and presents each verb fully conjugated in several tenses. All of the example sentences are phrases that are genuinely useful in real life and not surreal, impractical statements that you can find in some books.

I think that like most people, I find formal grammar bit scary but this book certainly takes the fear out of it and explains a potentially difficult subject in a clear and effective way. It is certainly a great addition to my French grammar resources and I heartily recommend it.
