Finally, an Australian horror novel that scares. Not only are the characters well developed, there is a sense of loss when the last pages are closed and a wish that the characters would at least drop you a postcard to let you know how they are! The insights in this novel, as well as the vivid dialogue, made this reader nod his head and wonder what he had been missing by not reading the earlier work ( he has since, thankfully, caught up ). It is a very pleasurable experience to be reading characters who talk and act like people you would meet and the setting also added to the connection. Hooray - somebody has finally written a satisfying horror novel (Stephen King, take notes!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Stunning Horror Novel 5 Dec 1999
Format:Paperback
Kim Wilkins just takes the breath away. Following on from The Infernal she follows up with Grimoire, 600 odd pages of one of the best horror novels that I have ever read. Her characterisation is spot on and there are a few chilling sequences, one in particular that left this jaded horror reader of long standing looking nervously around over his shoulder. This gets five stars but only because I can't give it more!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ADDICTIVE GOTHIC CHILLER 28 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I'm a huge fan of Kims since I first read The Infernal. Grimoire didn't disappoint! All 624 pages are a joy to read. Kim's characters are so real that you hate the book to end, you're longing to know the big WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? My favourite character in Grimoire is Justin. Like all her characters he has depth. As with The Infernal she weaves different time periods together, brilliantly. Her books are not only addictive, they linger in your mind for many months afterwards. If you haven't read this very talented writer then beg, borrow, steal or buy a copy. I love dark fantasy, but Kim is in a class of her own with her writing. I think she is the hottest young writer in this genre.
