Book Description

1 April 2012
Marla Mason, ousted chief sorcerer for the city of Felport, is languishing in exile on the island of Maui with her best friend, the psychic (and rather hedonistic) Rondeau. Driven from the city she loves, Marla is adrift, nearly friendless, and stripped of almost all her power and resources. It's the perfect time for old enemies to try and kill her. A group of sorcerers, all with their own reasons to want Marla dead, assemble and prepare to attack her while she's at her most vulnerable. The members of this Marla Mason Revenge Squad include the one-armed witch Nicolette, the cheerfully murderous psychopath Crapsey, a criminally insane shapeshifter, a man who hunts werewolves for fun, and a master of anti-magic, among others. But they aren't taking chances with an enemy as formidable as Marla. They hire the world's most notorious--and deadly--chaos witch, Elsie Jarrow, to lead their assault. But Elsie is impossible to predict and may well have an agenda of her own. But Marla isn't as helpless as they think...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fan funded fiction at its best 8 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the sixth Marla Mason novel and the second to be funded by the fans of the series. Yet again Tim Pratt doesn't disappoint his fans.

This installment sees Marla solving a murder mystery in Hawaii while everyone else is winding up to kill her in a battle royal. This is defiantly my favourite Marla Mason novel yet.

Of course you should read the prior novels in the series first, but you could get away with just reading Shark's Teeth (Marla Mason) which is a short story that sets the scene for the novel and introduces the main characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, if you are a fan 3 Jan 2012

If you are already a fan of the Tim Pratt's Marla Mason stories, then you can be assured that this is a fast, quick, enjoyable read in the same vein of the earlier books. You know what you are getting, and hopefully you already a fan.

If you are not a fan, then give this book a pass and read the earlier novels. This book contains MAJOR spoilers for at least 2 of the previous books, and relies heavily on characters and the results of those earlier novels (especially Broken Mirrors), but many of the actions, choices and options in this book are from the earlier novels.

I do highly recommend the earlier novels. Start at #1, Blood Engines (Marla Mason, Book 1) and work your way forward.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great book of the series 26 Oct 2012

Another great book of the series. The only one I haven't read of the series was the broken mirrors because I like Marla so much and didn't want to experience her loss of Felport. I'm really excited to see where her new life will take her with the decission she made at the end of this book. I also appreciate the complexity of family relationship in this one. I hope the series continues and can't wait to see the nex
5.0 out of 5 stars yay for more Marla! 4 Dec 2013
By Casey - Published on Amazon.com

First: Really glad this book exists. I think this was the first one Pratt funded via Kickstarter, and clearly that worked out well!

It took me a while to get into this one, because I found the setting a little jarring, and I had a moment of "oh god not another paranormal detective story..." But by the time the main plot got really going, I was totally on board. The story and characters continue to be original in an overworked genre, and I dug the way it all fit together even if some of the side plots I thought were less interesting.

Also, I'm really glad that the audiobook narrator did the crowdfunded books as well. She's FANTASTIC.

This is a great book. Marla is a awesome character, and she was really good in this book. I can't wait for the next one. If you haven't read this series yet. You really should pick it up. Marla Mason is a woman you don't want to get on the wrong side of. Very entertaining with lots of interesting characters, characters you don't usually find in other series.

I enjoy anything written by T.A. Pratt. He's a great author. If you like fantasy modern day novels; this is your man.
