Having seen what can be achieved with silent film on blu ray, Sunrise and City Girl from Murnau and Eureka, I was expecting far more from these DVDs than the quality they offer. The Harold Lloyd boxed set from Studio Canal / Optimum is superb.

It may be that good quality prints simply don't exist, I don't know, but of these films the only one that is vaguely watchable is Birth of a Nation. The other four are incredibly poor copies - washed out, soft focussed and scratched to hell and back.

Unless you are a silent film fanatic like me who would rather have them like this than not at all then fine go for them but I do live in hope that someone will issue far better copies than these in the not too distant future.
