I always seem to be watching iPlayer or 4oD when I am ironing/doing chores etc. or finding a recipe online that I want to cook - i.e. our iPad was spending more and more time in the kitchen, usually propped up by a couple of books and some blu-tack. I always worry about getting it wet or letting it slip onto the floor
This shiny steel(?) cabinet mount is screwed onto the base of your kitchen cabinet (all the way through) and fitted with shiny steel nuts. It folds up when not in use (remove your iPad!) and can swivel and rotate 360 degrees. I think you would need a drill to fit it.
We only have a 25mm pelmet under our cabinets, which hides the fittings, but not the four plastic prongs that grip the iPad itself (they are a matt grey colour, not black, so they aren't that obtrusive).
Whether or not it is useful is going to depend on what you need it for. My iPad has become my kitchen flat-screen TV/family organiser and a whole lot more!

Great space saver

I had used the Griffin Loop for the iPad when using my iPad in the kitchen. But having a galley style kitchen counter space has always been an issue. Saw this at the Apple Store and liked what it promised, and my local Best Buy had it in stock with no return charges if it did not fit or meet expectations. It met my expectations, and despite what I had read - it fit my shallow cabinets (12 inches, Griffin IIRC says 14 inches).
In the last half year or so I have gotten in to slow cooking. Love the web for recipes that are out there. The free space I had for mounting works better than using the Loop on a cramped part of the kitchen counter for viewing the recipes. The side benefit is that I now can use the iPad to watch ABC Player or Netflix videos when I don't need to read the recipes.
Installing was quite painless with the template provided and decent instructions. Though I would suggest forgetting the pencil thing they mention and punch a hole in the center of the holes to be drilled and use a Sharpie or something easier to see.
I had been using the Apple iPad case; found that this case was too larger to use the mount Griffin uses to make me feel comfortable. The naked iPad fits nicely with room for slightly larger sleeves to maybe work. On that subject, read that it is not recommended to fold the unit back with the iPad attached. I second this. No problems in doing it - but the naked iPad felt as if it could fall out folded back in a stowed position. I just don't want to take that chance.
In the end the Griffin Cabinet Mount is useful for those that need counter space. Some might balk at the cost, I know I was not happy with it. Yet it does the job that it is supposed to. And for those of us that have tried saving space in our kitchens, the price is up there with other space saving options.

Works Well If You Know a Few Things

This device does exactly what it says it will do, it allows you mount and iPad under a cabinet, and fold down/up.
My only issues is with the plastic grip that holds the iPad. First of all, the iPad must be in a hard shell type case. At first I put my iPad in this holder, and it fell out within a few minutes. I purchased a Griffin hard shell case, and it fits in much better. After a few weeks, I had one instance where the iPad fell out. (For me this is a permanent mount, the iPad has not been removed). To fix, I put a little piece of Velcro on the back of the case, and on the surface of the holder, and it has worked much better.
This is the only device on the market I've seen that accomplishes this task, and it does it well once you iron out these items. The metal hardware is very strong.

Great product, and I will purchase another. However, if you are thinking about purchasing this product you will need to place your iPad in a skin prior to seating it in the mount. This is true for both the iPad 2 and iPad 3 if you don't want to risk having it fall out. The extra 5 bucks for a cheap skin is well worth it for a secure fit.
