I received this Griffin ITrip this week in the post from Amazon and it is brilliant. I have only used it locally but the signal is really clear and it is so easy to set up - and I only ever read the instructions if something won't work the first time! At the click of a button it scans, saves three preset stations, you set up your car stereo to one of the presets, switch on your Ipod and away you go. It saves the frequency so if you preset the frequency on your car stereo it is really easy to start up again when you get back in the car. I love it and would definitely recommend it!

This item performs well and transmits a clear signal. The smart scan is a good function however it does scan every time you turn it on which can be irritating especially if you program your radio to one frequency. However it does store your stations so you can find the previous frequency through the menus. The cable is of good length and allows enough length to put your ipod in the glove box/seat/dash. It also looks quite smart in a shiny piano black.
All in all a good purchase and i would strongly recommend it.

I am a bit of a techno phobe these days and hadn't got a clue what I was looking for. As it was a present for my husband I wanted to be sure it would work. There are some terrible products out there, I am told. Delivery was swift and packaged well. It did exactly what it was supposed to and in seconds. Love it. Went from Midlands to east coast & didn't have to touch it once.

I read some of the reviews and found some people are missing the hidden feature of this product. This product has three modes US mode, EU mode and JP mode. Changing the mode means it changes the frequency range and the incrementation. If you need to go below 87.9 then use JP mode otherwise EU mode is good enough for most people. US mode is useless as it increments in 0.2 and has a range of 88.1 to 107.9 The advantage of using frequncies lower than 87.9 is they are not used hence as long as your radio supports it, you can get good sound without having to re-tune whilst travelling long distances. To change to EU,JP or US modes, Press function and hold the MODE button for 10 seconds and then select the required mode and wait until the frequency appears.
US mode 81.1 to 107.9 increments 0.2;
EU mode 88.0 to 108.0 increments 0.1;
JP mode 76.0 to 90.0 increments 0.1.

Griffin iTrip Auto 6190-TRPAUTOS FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for iPod With Smartscan

I searched all the reviews before buying as I had heard the cheaper versions of iPOD FM Transmitters didn't give good results.

Narrowed down the search to the iTrip on cost and the reviews it had recieved.

Plugged it in and off it went, had to do a bit of retuning when touring Wales recently but easy to do.

It works and saved me a whole lot of cash to get my Mazda MX5 converted to accept an iPod.

So it worked for me.

This a great value product that does exactly what it is supposed to do. It is so easy to set up and it charges the ipod at the same time. I looked at lots of diffent ways to get my ipod music playing in the car and i am really pleased that we decided to buy this,I would recommend it.

In comparison to the Belkin transmitter I had before this, this is far far superior.
Here's where I find this transmitter to be excellent:
1) Autoscan: Takes 15 seconds to find 3 optimal, noise-free stations, and sets them as preset.
2) Stays on even when no sound is being played. Some transmitters switch off if they don't detect sound for 5-10 seconds, bt this stays on which is useful for iPhones, as you can go from music to phone call, back to music without being annoyed!
3) Audio quality is very good, with low noise-levels.
4) Design is good, meaning the cables and such don't get in your way; my previous transmitter would get stuck in the gear lever quite often due to the cables coming out from the bottom of the unit.

Now for the problem I faced.
I noticed that playing very large range music (deep bass, vocals, high trebles, all at the same time), so for example breakbeats, or trance even, are handles very poorly by this device. It sounds like it can't handle all the sounds simultaneously, and therefore it alternates in dropping out sounds. This is annoying, because listening to a fast beat, you'll constantly hear a basskick, snare hit, cymbal, or even vocal, dropping out, and it gives you a headache.
Initially, I switched off the "SmartSound" option, which actually improved it, but the problem still persist for the loudest tracks.

But, if you listen to hip-hop, pop, and possibly most rock, you should enjoy this device a lot.

For a while I have used a Belkin Tunebase with an iPod Touch whilst driving and it was a great way to listen to audiobooks on the way to work every day. Recently, I brought an iPhone 4 which would not fit the tunebase in its case and I gave my Touch to my wife and with it the tunebase. I wanted an fm transmitter which connected by cable not mount and which charged the phone. This seemed to fit the bill and didn't cost the earth.

Overall I am very happy with it, it does exactly what I wanted and the sound is okay. The cable is long enough that you can put your device in a suitable place. One slight oddity is that with the iPhone 4 you get a message pop up every time you use it saying that this device is not optimised for the iPhone 4, I have yet to notice any issues with it however and the sound is better than the tunebase which doesn't display that message.

Listening to audiobooks means I have the volume higher than normal and there is a little noise in the background which isn't noticeable when listening to music, this is easily sorted by switching the iTrip to mono.

Only the popup message on the phone drops this to 4 stars otherwise I would easily give it 5 stars.
