Description:
Season 7 of Grey's Anatomy breathes fresh life into the medical drama. There's romance, hospital backstabbing, heartbreak, and hope - and a lot of heart, as with the best seasons of Grey's. One of the running themes involves an important blind test designed by McDreamy for a possible treatment for Alzheimer's, which tugs at both Meredith, whose mother died of the disease, and the chief, whose wife may be exhibiting symptoms. Meanwhile, Callie, heartbroken from the breakup with Arizona, finds out more news that sends her reeling. New characters are introduced, including Rachael Taylor as Lucy, a foxy new ob-gyn, whom Alex has his eye on.
The plots this season are the traditional Grey's cross of the dramatic (a horrible campus shooting fills the hospital with victims; a plane goes down in Puget Sound) and the deeply personal. After a couple of seasons of stability, Meredith and Derek find themselves at a horrifying crossroads. And death looks one of the cast members right in the eye. Season seven also includes the famed musical episode, which reminds the viewer why Ramirez was a Broadway star before she signed up with Grey's. Her solo on Brandi Carlile's "The Story" will give viewers goose bumps and maybe a few tears. It's a standout performance. The set includes a very funny gag reel, some interesting deleted scenes that seem worthy of having been included, and some singing outtakes of some of the songs most closely associated with Grey's Anatomy. Turns out the talented cast really does know how to save a life.

WARNING- SPOILERS

Firstly, I played this on my region 2 player just out of curiosity and it didn't work, so be sure to get a multi-region player.

After the devestation of the season 6 finale, Grey's Anatomy is back as the doctors struggle to overcome the trauma of the shooting. This season includes gripping storylines including: Christina's post-traumatic stress disorder, Callie's shock pregnancy, a new love interest for Miranda, a sham marriage for Teddy, a job in Africa for Arizona, Meredith risking her career for someone she cares about, Derek trying to cure alzheimers, a heartbreaking diagnosis that threatens Chief Webber's family, a battle for chief resident and much much more!

We are also treated to a musical episode (Song Beneath the Song), a Callie-centric episode in which many of the cast show off their musical talent with memorable songs that have been used in the show's past. Sara Ramirez's (Callie Torez) performace is superb, along with Chyler Leigh (Lexi Grey), Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) and Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) who have suprisingly good voices. Rather than go down a very cheesy jazz-hands route, the songs simply amplify the emotion of the moments. It's beautifully done.

We have more time to get to know Mercy West doctors April Kepner and Jackson Avery, two characters which grew on me considerably this season. Other additions to the cast include OBGYN Lucy Fields and the seemingly cold hearted pediatrician Robert Stark (portrayed by Peter Macnicol- Ally McBeal, Numbers).

The season ends with a few storylines really just beginning, which is slightly frustrating, but they will obviously be revisited in season 8 so we know what we have to look forward to.

Special features include a behind the scenes feature for the musical episode, A gag reel, Deleted scenes and 'Seattle Grace: Message of Hope' Webisodes in which Chief Webber works to rebuild his hospital's reputation as a safe environment after the news coverage of the shootings.

Grey's fans will not be dissapointed. Season 7 delivers a mixture of laugh out loud moments and tear jerkers just as well as the previous seasons.

Amazing Season! 12 Jun 2011
Format:DVD
I wasn't sure how they would handle this season after the shooting last season. I thought the show might go in the wrong direction and it would be the start of the end. This season was amazing. I thought they handled the fallout of last seasons finale really well. I love the character stories that ran throughout the season. Yang seemed to take more of a centre stage this season, which was great as she is one of my favourite characters. There are one or two tiny new characters, but I think they are more for future seasons and were added to sort of get the ball rolling on next seasons stories. Meredith had a fantastic storyline this season, which sort of came alive towards the second half. Karev centred episodes were actually my favourite. Hopefully at some point something will actually go right for him! The characters continue to get better. There was not a dull episode in the season. The musical was really funny and I think we can establish who can sing and who can't by the way Callie basically sings nearly every song. An amazing season, which can only get better next year.
