GRETCHEN GREENE

Randy has undergone a major transformation, at first it was hard not to hate him, he was cunning and crafty in "Sin & Vengeance", but later in "Demon Awaits", he showed us another side that explained his tragic past, still not the side of a cuddly or loveable guy. In this latest adventure Randy plays the part of a hero when he encounters a young woman, Gretchen Greene, a researcher who is morally ambiguous and eco- obsessed.

--Toni Osborne

C.J. West knows how to grab a readers attention and keep you hanging until the last page.

--Sheri A. Wilkinson

A DEMON AWAITS

I love the ever changing dynamics of the characters from one book to the next. If you like thrillers with a great story line and intriguing characters, you'll love A Demon Awaits.

THE END OF MARKING TIME

... West has brilliantly portrayed a world gone crazy where the rule is there are no rules, or are they. Crime fiction meets science fiction in this awesome thriller."
--Book Bitch

Powerful, thought provoking and massively entertaining... I loved this book and the way it made me root for someone who I knew I shouldn't like.

Gretchen Greene, ecoterrorist turned energy researcher, is militant about saving the planet. When her research team discovers an advance in solar technology that will make fossil fuels obsolete, she takes the invention and the data necessary to recreate it and runs. Unfortunately for Gretchen, she's not the only one aware of the discovery. A team of assassins destroys the lab and eliminates the researchers one by one until only Gretchen remains. Another student races Gretchen away from the scene, but the assassins catch up and trap Gretchen and her friend against a highway guardrail. Randy Black arrives. He believes he's been sent to save Gretchen, but he must learn what she's done and why she's surrounded by armed men all intent on having her in one way or another.

From the Publisher

CJ West's Randy Black series features a hero in turmoil. Sin & Vengeance shows the depths of Randy's anger as he lashes out against a man who has wronged him. Randy doesn't expect to survive his vendetta. When he does, A Demon Awaits presents him with a challenge to remake himself and earn redemption. Randy fights valiantly for others and the governor is so moved, he offers Randy his freedom-with a few strings attached. In Gretchen Greene, Randy finds himself running from his past while struggling to earn redemption. He meets Gretchen Greene and undertakes the first of many challenges he must overcome. For new readers, we suggest beginning the series with Sin & Vengeance and then A Demon Awaits. From there, readers can enjoy any Randy Black novel next.

Very Captivating 17 Feb 2011
By Toni Osborne - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
3rd book in the Randy Black series

The author is not one to take a formula and run with it, he is one who thrives on incorporating unpredictability; you never know what to expect. This latest is a prime example; fans will notice that the protagonist and the series have evolved tremendously.

Gretchen and her team are on the edge of developing a solar technology that could make fossil fuel obsolete but instead of developing the invention she decides to take the data and run. Unfortunately, a team of assassins with other ideas is also aware of the discovery and is determined to destroy everyone and everything connected to the research. With the aid of a fellow student, Gretchen manages to escape the attack. But in their haste to flee they are involved in a chaotic accident and find themselves trying to keep one step ahead of the assassins.

At this point, Randy becomes part of the action and finds himself in a dilemma, how can he save Gretchen and not attract the attention of the authorities; any attention could derail his long awaited pardon from the Governor.

I like this series, the topics are as varied as you can imagine. "Gretchen Greene" is very captivating, its starts with a bang and grabs your attention immediately and never lets go. The story is character driven, their depiction strong and unpredictable. The plot is well structured and the events dictate the next move in a most thrilling way. On the down side, it may be difficult to pick up this series mid-point, the author provides little background in his flashback of past events and it can be a bit confusing and challenging at times. In order to get maximum enjoyment from this series, I suggest starting at the beginning and read subsequent novels promptly.

So far I can truthfully say I have enjoyed this series and I am looking forward to Randy's next adventures

Gretchen Grenne 24 May 2010

Gretchen Greene (C.J. West)
The thrilling third book in the Randy Black series, a real page turner.
Randy finds himself on a mission to protect Gretchen Greene, an ecoterrorist/energy researcher. She steals an invention that will make fossil fuels obsolete. This would bankrupt dozens of oil-exporting nations. Not to mention angering a lot of people.

Randy finds himself on the scene, trying to protect this selfish/non-thankful woman, not knowing what he got himself into. Soon building are exploding, people are dying and assassins are on their tail. With the aide of reporter Cassie Corcoran, will Randy be able to pull this off?

He must pull this off, there is the little problem with the Governor, he has not pardoned Randy. To get this pardon Randy must stay out of trouble, to stay out of prison. Not knowing who to trust in this cat and mouse tale, Randy finds himself in dire situations, trying to clear his name and save one handful of a woman, Gretchen Greene.

Once again C.J. West knows how to grab a readers attention and keep you hanging until the last page. Well written suspense thriller, this is a great follow up to A Demon Awaits & Sin and Vengeance (the first in the Randy Black series). Also by Mr. West, Taking Stock. I look forward with anticipation to the next great read from C.J. West.
Who really is Gretchen Green? 25 May 2012

Gretchen Greene
Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it isn't a well-written book. Gretchen Green is dedicated to saving the planet. She walks or buses everywhere, only eats things she gleans from the land, and she does research for a university. Her team has done most of the research, but their boss takes the credit for everything. He schedules a press conference to announce his discovery. Gretchen and other team members are invited to the conference, which is held outside on the lawn.

Earlier, before she takes her seat, Gretchen sneaks into the lab, puts the latest research on a thumb drive, and seals it into a protective metal egg. When that's done, she erases the good data and replaces it with old data. Then she takes her seat. The press is there. People are seated. The boss steps up to the podium . . . and is shot. More shooting, the lab explodes, and Gretchen is on the run.

The story is mostly about Gretchen on the run with the metal egg. She trusts no one. She staunchly insists on living the way she always has, even when people come after her.

This is a lively story. Gretchen is part of the problem as our fearless hero tries to save her from her enemies. But wait, there are more than one set of enemies. Are there good guys or only bad guys?

It's a good suspense story. You'll like it.
