Product Description

Read all five books in the New York Times bestselling Gregor: The Underland Chronicles!

When Gregor follows his little sister through a grate in the laundry room of their New York apartment building, he hurtles into the dark Underland beneath the city. There, humans live uneasily beside giant spiders, bats, cockroaches, and rats--but the fragile peace is about to fall apart.

Gregor wants no part in this conflict, but again and again, he and his family are drawn into the Underland. Gregor must find his place in the frightening prophecies he encounters, the strength to protect his family, and the courage to defend against an army of giant rats.

In this action-packed and masterful series, Suzanne Collins unfolds the fate of the Underland and its great warrior, Gregor the Overlander.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Excellent 2 July 2012
By Ellie
Format:Kindle Edition
I most definitely believe that the Overlander series should be as well known and as reknowned as the Hunger Games. These books are suitable for a precocious reader aged 7+ although adults will enjoy them as well.

Gregor is a twelve year old, the man of the house since his father disappeared a few months ago. He stays in their New York flat, looking after his 2 younger sisters Lizzie and Boots (nickname for Margaret...) while their mother tries to earn enough to keep them going.
Then, one boiling hot day, Boots falls through the grate in the laundry room and Gregor follows...
He is transported to a world far beneath New York where they are known as Underlanders, with pale skin and eyes. There he finds cockroaches as tall as him, bats big enough for him to ride on- and rats who think he and Boots are a tasty snack.
He must enlist the help of the Underlanders who believe him to be some kind of hero to escape back to New York safely with his baby sister and find out why his father really vanished.

I loved these books, and sped through them in hours, before rereading them again. It is excellent value for money and you will not be bored any step of the way. They are excellent value as it is only £3.16 per book- far cheaper even than the paperbacks.

I recommend these if you liked any of the following:
Hunger Games
Harry Potters
Percy Jacksons
Young Samurais
Shapeshifters
Artemis Fowl
Chronicles of Ancient Darkness
Kane Chronicles
but if not, still give them a shot!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic adventure 5 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having thoroughly enjoyed 'The Hunger Games' trilogy, I bought 'Gregor the Overlander' collection on an impulse. Okay, I didn't realise 'Gregor' was a bit kiddish. But guess what? I finished five books over the weekend and simply couldn't put them down.

A personal plea to Suzanne Collins:
Whatever you do, please do not stop writing. And thank you for giving me such a nice fantasy world to escape to. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! 13 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is such an amazing series. Love it love it love it. All lovers of fantasy and other world stories with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure will LOVE this.its been ages since i found a really good fantasy series. I was very upset to leave the characters by the end and put the books down with a sigh of regret lol! A series to revisit again and again. I bought it on my kindle but its the type of series that you would want in a hard copy to keep. The appeal will be for teens upwards (I am 38 lol and it held me in its thrall!)
Only thing i think the author could have changed is the title. The title Gregor the Overlander sounded so boring and so unlike the story I found inside but hey..not a big problem!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Underland Chronicles 29 Jun 2013

I bought them hoping that my granddaughter, a reluctant reader, would enjoy them. It worked! She is now officially 'a reader'. They have something to say to adult readers too.

I read this book so I could discuss it, share it with my 12 year old son. We both loved The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins has a way of drawing you into another world where you fall in love with the characters and care so much about what happens to them you cannot put the books down. Filled with heart breaking lessons about family devotion, friendship and compassion, survival against the odds, courage of ordinary self doubting people, relationships between people and creatures of all sorts and most of all hope. Recommended to all.
