Product Description

Product Description

Grass is a living thing that needs air and water to grow. Regular mowing and other outdoor activities in the garden during the summer months lead to compaction in the surface layer of the lawn. Drainage is impeded and it is harder for water , air and fertiliser to penetrate to the roots. The Greenkey 30cm rolling lawn aerator provides a fast and efficient way to keep your lawn aerated, helping the lawn to breathe and take in essential nutrients. The large 300mm (12") width enables you to cover your lawn quickly and easily, and the thirty 45mm (2") spikes provide deep and even aeration. Best used as part of your lawn care routine in Spring and Autumn. For best results, use when the ground is soft. Very quick to assemble. Spare parts available. When using, always push the aerator in front of you. *This aerator is a tool and has sharp components. DO NOT allow children to play with the aerator and store safely out of reach when not in use*. When carrying the aerator it is advisable to hold the lowest section of the handle.

Having been in our present house for over 15 years the lawn was constantly having moss thatch problems. Raking and scarifying was only ever a short term fix but the garden fork was just to time consuming for the size of lawn.

The product comes needing to be assembled but the single, ineffectual, spanner was soon discarded. I used the 8, 11, 14mm spanners from my own tool kit though a compact adjustable would also work taking, a little over 20 minutes.

I have used the product twice now and would advise using while the ground is moist as, having hit some buried stone, it does jolt on hard ground. I found the most effective technique was to push the device with the T handle in my tummy and a hand mid way down the handle to concentrate the downward force. Without a downward force there isn't enough weight to penetrate to a spike depth.

The device comes with caps for the spikes when not in use, far to fiddly and easy to lose. I have used some strips of sponge pipe insulation which slip on and off in seconds and do not get lost as easily.

I believe that the lawn is showing benefits already though accept that 2 uses, in a month, is probably not enough to fully assess how effective the device is.

This is a very good product. However a few people have realised that it's a little light and doesn't penetrate really compacted lawns. However, I put four 2.5kg barbell weights onto the base of the pole. I just had to remove the third bolt down and the weights slip onto the pole and sit nicely at the base on the sliver cross piece, then refit the pole together. Now it penatrates even compacted lawn and if you wait till just after it's rained, it's a breeze, keep that handle a little low though to get enough push.

This is great for aerating your lawn, but beware, you've got to put your weight behind it to get it to work the way your lawn needs. You've have got to get at least an inch down into your lawn for this aerating to work, and the only way to do this is to put your back into rolling this up and down your lawn. Don't expect to walk with it behind you whilst drinking a glass of Pimms as it won't spike deep enough.

I have been working on my lawn for the last couple of years and as part of that process, aerating it is extremely important. This is robust, heavy duty and easy to put together (took about 15mins). Get your lawn aerated, fed, mowed. scarified (at the proper time of year) and watered when it needs it and you'll have a thick, lush lawn that'll last you year through (oh, you may need some conditioning and weed killer too).

There is no real weight in the unit, though it is true the points are sharp. However the two do not combine to alow the unit to penentrate the grass / soil. So you either take the unit for a walk up and down your lawn without aerating it (as per photo), or you hold the handle above the roller to push the spikes in.

I've now ditched the unit and am 'moving up' to a hollow plug aerator. At least with that a) you know you are truly opening up the lawn structure and b) as the design is similar to a fork all the downward effort is used productively.

I read a few reviews before buying this device and I was a bit sceptical about the results but it really does work.

I used it when the lawn was soft(which was most of the time in my case) and the effort needed wasn't too bad. I used weed and feed straight after wards and watered in. The results are very good. Recommended.

Yes, a good solid piece of kit, but if you're female about 5'1" tall, forget it. There's no height adjustment and just too high to put pressure to get prongs into the lawn. I tried taking out a section, but no allowance for this to re-construct. I shall have to wait till it rains and hopefully less pressure to get the prongs in deep enough. As one reviewer said, it's not a walk in the park and don't think you can have a Pimms in one hand while you work.

I bought the Lawn Aerator for my Dad as a birthday present. He told me he needed to be careful assembling it due to the sharp ends but once up and running it was fantastic, easy to use, not needing any strength to push, and did his lawn proud.

Once assembled this is a satisfactory and reasonably robust tool. Like one reviewer has stated it does require some effort in pushing along for the spikes to penetrate. As always these days you have to assemble it yourself. A cheap pressed-steel spanner is supplied but you will need two other spanners and a screwdriver to assemble it. Indeed you will be better off dispensing with the cheap and nasty supplied spanner (for tighening the spikes) and using a proper one. Just why the manufacturers only supplied the 'spike' spanner and nothing else is ludicrous.

One reviewer states it takes 15 mins to assemble which is incorrect. There are a total of thirty separate spikes to insert around the plastic wheels (six spikes to each wheel) and these each need to be tightened and that's before the rest of the assembly. It is easy to assemble but rather tedious so find yourself a comfy armchair and allow at least 30 mins but do not assemble it on a waterbed. Surprisngly, there's no country of origin printed anywhere so I cannot tell if this is a cheap Chinese manufactured model but I would guess it is.
