More About the Author

Born in England in 1936, Marian spent many years of her life living in other places. She brought up her children in Australia and later went to California to pursue graduate studies. In 1996, she retired from her professional career as a psychotherapist and workshop leader in order to concentrate on her writing. And in 1998 she returned to her native England. As a free-lance writer, Marian has publishing credits in many subjects, from mind/body/spirit and women's issues to environmental politics, organic growing and alternative technology.

Marian's first non-fiction book was "Transformation through Menopause" (Bergin & Garvey,1991). This was the first self-help guide to the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of menopause and is still claimed by many to be the best book on menopause ever written. Her second book "ELDERWOMAN: reap the wisdom, feel the power, embrace the joy" (Findhorn Press, 2002) follows on from that. It is a comprehensive guide to the crowning/croning phase of women's lives, the years from menopause onwards.

With a passionate interest--and considerable personal experience--in simplicity and sustainable living, Marian published "The Lilypad List: Seven steps to the simple life" (also through Findhorn Press) in 2004. In 2009 she published (through Booklocker) her first novel "The Bird Menders," which is now also available in a Kindle edition as well as in paperback. In 2010 she edited the definitive book on green spirituality "GreenSpirit: Path to a New Consciousness"(O Books). Following that, she authored two books in the 'Made Easy' series for John Hunt Publishing. The first of these was another book on the theme of living simply entitled "Downshifting Made Easy: how to plan for your planet-friendly future." The second, which drew on the experience and expertise of Marian's years as a psychotherapist, is a self-help book called "Self-Therapy Made Easy" (Psyche Books, 2012)

Marian is currently co-ordinating the production of a new ebook series for the GreenSpirit organization. The first title in this series - "What is Green Spirituality" -is now available on Kindle and there will be others following soon.

Marian has also contributed to several anthologies, including both the Chicken Soup and Cup of Comfort series.

One of her short stories ("Waiting a While for Greeneyes") was published as a Leaf mini-book and she self-published a short story collection through in 2006 under the title "Apricot Harvest."

She is also a book reviewer and for several years wrote the "Books in Brief" section of Resurgence magazine. She is co-editor of the "GreenSpirit Journal" and a columnist for Crone magazine, in the USA. She edits the quarterly "Elderwoman Newsletter" e-zine and has created (and maintains) several websites, an online social network for 'elderwomen' and also a blog.

At last the definitive guide to green spirituality - I love it!

Green spirituality is much more than spirituality and nature. It is a paradigm shift, seeing the world through new eyes and making spirituality relevant to today's fast changing world. Green spirituality draws from many spiritual traditions as well as science. For instance, it covers eco-justice, social-justice, honouring the shadow, creativity, economics, education and much, much more.

The book is a set of 31 chapters, each chapter written by a contributor. This approach is green spirit in itself, offering diversity to make a unique whole. No one person or outlook contains all of the answers. Some of the contributors to the book may be familiar names; examples include Matthew Fox, Brian Swimme, Satish Kumar, Emma Restall Orr, David Korten and Neil Douglas-Klotz.

From an understanding of our world and our place in it, to understanding ourselves, then looking through the lens of different spiritual traditions and finally to practical outworking - the book is coherent and flowing.

The book has helped me, yet again, to celebrate my place in this awesome, beautiful world.

Format: Paperback
This delightful book skilfully weaves together views that have often been seen as representing differing and conflicting ideas and philosophies based around religion/spirituality, science and new-age thinking. The diverse and interesting contributors (some well known and others less so, but all with something important to say) have been thoughtfully chosen and present what I believe is a very convincing case for finding common ground and blending rational and long-held religious and spiritual ideas with the exciting and ground breaking new world being revealed by modern science.
Can we successfully mix a deep ecological and spiritually heart-based approach to life with practical and rational approaches grounded in sound science? Yes! This is the conclusion that this book presents.
Growing numbers of people are realising that we cannot continue in our present blind way trying to solve the burgeoning environmental problems and growing consequences of human selfishness by employing yesterday's thinking and ways of relating. GreenSpirit - Path to a New Consciousness provides a possible blueprint, cogently offering an holistic, scientific, earth-centred approach and I believe successfully arguing that a sustainable future relies on You, Me and Us Together walking a path to a new consciousness.
If you are at all curous about green sprituality or, are already involved in the green movement but feeling rather jaded and dispirited at the current lack of progress, this is the book for you. Read and enjoy and maybe join GreenSpirit as a growing group of people who think and act differently.

What an engaging read. I found myself challenged to animate the word and walk the talk. Contributions range from Gaian theory, to the great spiritual traditions, to the greening of our culture - from science, prescience to permaculture. This is a broad, deep, and grounded book rooted in the earthly practicalities but never ignorant of the need to explore the mystery of the heavens. Assembled sensitively by Marian Van Eyk McCain these essays stimulate a whole constellation of insights, ideas and feelings in me. I found it a real boon to my own consciousness making.

This compact book contains so much of value and inspiration. Each contribution raises profound ideas and issues yet helps create a broader tapestry, a context within which the rich diversity of ideas are integrated.
It is a book to read and study and also to keep to hand, to come back to for clarification and re-stimulation.
A gem!
