Product Description

Review

'GreenSpirit: Path to a New Consciousness' offers numerous healing and inspiring insights; notably, that Earth and the universe are primary divine Revelation, a truth to be transmitted to our children as early and effectively as possible. (Thomas Berry) A valuable guide to some of the deepest thinking on the connections between ecology and spirituality. Never before have so many important ideas on these subjects been assembled between the covers of a single book. (Rupert Sheldrake, Ph.D., biologist and author of A New Science of Life)

Product Description

Only by understanding the Universe as a vast, holistic system and Earth as a unit within it can we help restore balance to that unit. Only by placing Earth and its ecosystems - about which we now understand so much - at the centre of all our thinking can we avert ecological disaster. Only by bringing our thinking back into balance with feeling, intuition and awareness, and by grounding ourselves in a sense of the sacred in all things can we achieve a new level of consciousness. Green spirituality is the key to a new, twenty-first century consciousness. And this book is the most comprehensive ever written on green spirituality.

At last the definitive guide to green spirituality - I love it!

Green spirituality is much more than spirituality and nature. It is a paradigm shift, seeing the world through new eyes and making spirituality relevant to today's fast changing world. Green spirituality draws from many spiritual traditions as well as science. For instance, it covers eco-justice, social-justice, honouring the shadow, creativity, economics, education and much, much more.

The book is a set of 31 chapters, each chapter written by a contributor. This approach is green spirit in itself, offering diversity to make a unique whole. No one person or outlook contains all of the answers. Some of the contributors to the book may be familiar names; examples include Matthew Fox, Brian Swimme, Satish Kumar, Emma Restall Orr, David Korten and Neil Douglas-Klotz.

From an understanding of our world and our place in it, to understanding ourselves, then looking through the lens of different spiritual traditions and finally to practical outworking - the book is coherent and flowing.

The book has helped me, yet again, to celebrate my place in this awesome, beautiful world.

Here at last is a book that pulls it all together, helping us to `connect the dots' between spirituality and our efforts to create a sustainable way of life for humans on this planet.

The book's 31 chapters combine to illustrate the diversity of thought and spiritual experience of people from many spiritual traditions and from science.

I have never seen this much wisdom and inspirational writing gathered under one cover before. GreenSpirit contains personal reflections from well known writers such as Matthew Fox, Brian Swimme, Satish Kumar, Emma Restall Orr, David Korten and Neil Douglas-Klotz and a host of other writers.

Although there is no one precise definition of green spirituality, I like the following: "In green spirituality, God is not a dispassionate sky god far removed from earthly concerns but rather the Earth God who lives underfoot and makes holy the encircling earth that protects and nourishes all things."

This book reveals the depth and richness of loving feelings from those inspired by a life of respect and awe as Earthlings, not only in association but in communion with Gaia and all of creation.

Masterfully organized by Marian Van Eyk McCain, the book is divided into four major parts: `Understanding.' `Spiritual Pathways' `Greening our Culture' and `Walking our Talk.' Taken together, they form an impressive guidebook for 21st Century living that deserves a place on everyone's shelf.

This delightful book skilfully weaves together views that have often been seen as representing differing and conflicting ideas and philosophies based around religion/spirituality, science and new-age thinking. The diverse and interesting contributors (some well known and others less so, but all with something important to say) have been thoughtfully chosen and present what I believe is a very convincing case for finding common ground and blending rational and long-held religious and spiritual ideas with the exciting and ground breaking new world being revealed by modern science.
Can we successfully mix a deep ecological and spiritually heart-based approach to life with practical and rational approaches grounded in sound science? Yes! This is the conclusion that this book presents.
Growing numbers of people are realising that we cannot continue in our present blind way trying to solve the burgeoning environmental problems and growing consequences of human selfishness by employing yesterday's thinking and ways of relating. GreenSpirit - Path to a New Consciousness provides a possible blueprint, cogently offering an holistic, scientific, earth-centred approach and I believe successfully arguing that a sustainable future relies on You, Me and Us Together walking a path to a new consciousness.
If you are at all curous about green sprituality or, are already involved in the green movement but feeling rather jaded and dispirited at the current lack of progress, this is the book for you. Read and enjoy and maybe join GreenSpirit as a growing group of people who think and act differently.
