By L. Hubbard TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
John Powell is a fantastically versatile composer, capable of mixing orchestral, electronic and percussive elements with great effect (perhaps the best example of this would be The Bourne Supremacy. However, the score to Green Zone is percussion and electronics heavy, with no real theme or intelligence to the orchestra (which is dominated by the string section). As usual, Powell's sense of rhythm is first class and the percussion and electronics do work well to keep the pace going. But here in lies the problem. Having no interesting orchestral undercurrent to the score means the tracks quickly become dull, unless you happen to like Powell's percussive works. The final track "Chaos/E-mail" is the highlight, with Powell producing a last gasp of orchestral majesty to proceedings which leaves the album on a high, but it just feels to little to late. Overall, the album is great if you like Powell's relentless percussion, with the final track being the highlight for those who prefer Powell's orchestral writing.

Very Good 22 Dec 2011
Format:Audio CD
Very good. Mostly improves on the Bourne soundtracks. It has a theme, I sense. Good driving music. Good working music. Cool and seductive. Like the movie of which the music was an important part.

Better than Bourne III which was better than Bourne II which was better than Bourne I. Powell is progressing. Taking from his own earlier stuff, taking some from other contemporary composers, a little tiny bit from Black Hawk Down, a little tiny bit from Terminator. All creative humans stand on the shoulders of previous creative humans bringing in their own improvements and versions. Very good soundtrack. Especially if you want to drive through town in an uncontrollable manner. Keep an eye out for those soft pedestrians and bicyclers. This music will help you stay tuned on what the movie is about: That reasons given for going to war are always a political trick and the image of the US army remains super cool nevertheless. Hollywood and their writers and composers just cannot help creating cool music and cool stories portraying their country in what is supposed to be a bad light but ends up being attractive, even seductive.
