Very informative and detailed about all aspects of smoothies, juicing and practical nutrition advice. I liked that the book recommends reasonable priced quality smoothie makers that all can afford. There are a lot of juicing books but this is my favourite one !

Having read and benefited from some of the many books written by Cressida Elias, this new book GREEN SMOOTHIE JOY: Recipes for Living, Loving and Juicing Green does not come as a surprise for being one of the more complete books on the concept of green juicing and the many benefits from following this plan of dietary smart nutrition. What is a real pleasure in this book is the very classy presentation of the written contents, the quality of the photographs, and the very sophisticated and useful way in which the recipes are presented. This is almost an Art Book in addition to being a resource on health and fitness!

British writer Elias is widely traveled - Australia, India, Nepal, Africa, Cuba, Europe and the US - exploring the healthy food options every place she visits, and writes about dieting, eating healthy, making healthier cooking recipes, natural remedies and organic products. She also happens to write charming books for children that subtly emphasize healthy living.

In this particular book she addresses the growingly popular fad of using smoothies as a healthy substitute for snacks. She offers a list of green smoothie benefits in that they help detox and cleanse to improve health, give energy kicks replacing caffeine, they're easy to make and store, they can be made from a wide variety of fruits and vegetable, they are packed with enzymes and vitamins often lost in other types of foods, they contain antioxidants and phytochemicals and they are alkaline to balance our acid/alkaline levels. Once she has established the benefits she provides details as to just exactly what are smoothies and how they differ from other blended type preparations, what to use and not to use in making smoothies, and actually HOW to make - start to finish - a highly successful smoothie.

A cornucopia of information about smoothies 24 Jan. 2013
By J. Chambers - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I've reviewed a couple of books recently on juicing fresh fruits and vegetables, and many of the recipes looked delicious. I've occasionally had fresh-squeezed juices at juice bars, and they were very good. But I don't often drink fruit juices, since I have two concerns about them: 1) Most juicers discard all of the non-nutritive fiber; and 2) I'm diabetic, and I'm concerned about the glycemic load after drinking fruit juices. My preference is for smoothies, which I can make at home with a blender that's less expensive than a juicer, or use my immersion blender.

So when author Cressida Elias asked me if I would review her new book Green Smoothie Joy, I was glad to do so. Her book includes recipes for more than a hundred great-looking smoothies, plus a few fresh juices, but it also serves as a complete primer for those who are interested in making their own smoothies. Ms. Elias begins by discussing blenders and juicers and what to look for when you buy one. Moving right into making your own smoothies, the book mentions the types of ingredients to use (some surprises there, like nuts and seeds); some "superfoods" that are packed with nutrients; to use milk or not, and what kinds of milk are best; using smoothies for weight loss; and ways to add protein to your smoothies. There are also some tips on enticing your kids to drink nutritious smoothies (hint: make them sweet and creamy with bananas and strawberries).

The balance of the book is made up of the recipes. Most of the smoothie recipes have gorgeous color photography showing the finished product, and they do look tantalizing. In addition, each recipe helpfully lists the nutritional information (calories; grams of carbohydrates, protein, and fat; percentage of the minimum daily value for iron; and the major vitamins and minerals that are present. There are some recipes for "Time Crunched Smoothies" for those times when you want a quick, easy to make smoothie. There's also a chapter on "Very Sweet Naughty Smoothies" for when you feel like... well, never mind.

Overall, I found Green Smoothie Joy to be a cornucopia of helpful information about smoothies and how to make them. The author made a solid case for the benefits of making your own smoothies with fresh or frozen fruits (and some vegetables, too).

Interesting recipes 16 Aug. 2013
By Granny - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I like the recipes, but I wish I hadn't bought the Kindle edition.
I should have known that it's hard to flip back and forth to find a recipe I saw previously.
I guess I'm just not used to using an electronically printed cookbook.
I think I would have liked it better as a regular book.
But the recipes are varied, good and hopefully healthful. Things mixed together that I wouldn't have thought to try.

I'm not too far into the book, but so far it is exactly what I'm looking for! I don't have to purchase multiple books or search google for answers. It seems to be right where I need it, all in one place!!!!
