Product Description

Product Description

Whether you want a turf roof, solar-powered hot water, or a super-insulated (and cost-efficient) house, you need to know the essential elements of the selfbuild process. In "The Green Self-Build Book", Jon Broome gives an overview of the different methods of sustainable and eco-friendly construction techniques, and presents this information in a way that is relevant to non-professionals. The book includes case studies of green building techniques such as earth and straw bale buildings. "The Green Self-Build Book" gives inspiration and information to guide you through the green self-build process. It is intended for anyone who is planning a self-build project, and also for housing professionals, students and teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, 11 Jul 2007
By Nick Grant (Hereford UK) - See all my reviews
My partner and I were inspired to build our own house by the previous version of this book and now we are in this one so I think it's reasonable to call it inspiring.

This is a book with substance and great coffee table pictures as well. A good mix of technical advice and the stories of self builders written by a self builder and very experienced green Architect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good general info book, 15 Jun 2009
I am thinking of a self build. This book gives the basics and covers a lot of ground from initial design right through to finishing. It looks at green issues from insulation to recycling. It is not the only book you will need as this subject could not possibly fit into one book, but it helps you decide what areas you want to look into further yourself and what areas you will ask for help from experts on. Lots of photos (some a little dated) and info for UK self builders.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still green on "The Green Self-Build Book", 1 Aug 2009
By WalterJ "WalterJ" (Norfolk,NR UK) - See all my reviews
I brought this book as a present for my father,as he is very keep on the idea of possibly making it his last project before finally hanging up his tools...yeah,right!..He's been known to go out for an evening meal with a tape measure in his pocket and a pencil behind his ear!.(honestly).
Anyway, back to the book,As he's only had the chance to have a quick flick through the book and has hardly started reading it,I can only go by what he has caught his eye so far,but he seems fairly impressed by it's features & contents. But until I get a chance to have a read through myself,I can only give it 4stars,so watch this space, when I can give you my honest opinion..
