Product Description

Synopsis

'It is my belief, Watson, founded upon my experience, that the lowest and vilest alleys in London do not present a more dreadful record of sin than does the smiling and beautiful countryside.' - Sherlock Holmes in The Adventure of the Copper Beeches. A brand new and delicious selection of the best modern crime writing. The theme is 'crime in the countryside' . Most of the 20 stories were specially commissioned and are unavailable elsewhere. Each story is accompanied by a biography of the writer. GREEN FOR DANGER is the mystery collection of the year. The best of British crime writing today.

This review is from: Green for Danger 2003: The Official Anthology of the Crime Writers' Association (Paperback)
This CWA Anthology is a tour de force of contemporary crime writing, all linked by rural themes. As usual, the book combines stories from well known writers such as Ruth Rendell, Peter Lovesey and Martin Edwards, with work from emerging authors. Some are better than others, and indeed, some of the emerging authors produce the best stories in the book, including Judith Cutler and Matt Coward.

There's a great mix of very dark stories, lighter, humorous ones, unresolved cases, and a number of surprising twists and spine-tingling conclusions. Highly recommended.
