Yes recently everyone has jumped on the minimal bandwagon and inevitably there has been a lot of just plain boring minimal mixes released. What these two mixes have that the others don't is the Funk. Not in the James Brown or Funky House sense, but Funk in the sense of Get Up & Dance right now sense.

These mixes also succeed due to the quality of the mixing and track selection - these mixes are truly more than the sum of their parts. Its no coincidence that Villalobos and Loco Dice have such big reputations. When it comes to this sound they are the masters and they can truly rock a party.

The overall vibe for me, reminds me of a Sunday outdoor party. Whether carrying on from the night before or warming up for the night ahead - this is the sound I would want to hear.

I've had this for about a year now and its still in high rotation in my cd player. Quality all the way through.

You know when you go and see you favourite dj's/acts/performers etc and wish you could buy their set at the end of the night or at least get a copy of it somewhere down the line? Well prayers have been answered in this particular case Green & Blue (german festival) consists of 2 live mixes from the legends that are Loco Dice and Ricardo Villalobos and doesn't dissapoint. Each mix is of course typical of what you'd expect from these dj's, Loco Dice playing quite groovy deep and techy house interspersed with some minimal before building nicely to a quite melodic yet twisted techno crescendo. Villalobos is similar but starts a lot more funky and builds the set nicely playing funky techno and tech house before getting into the darker side of what does towards the end of the mix. Both sets are well structured and wont fail to get you going if this is your type of thing. If you like Cocoon, Minus, Circoloco nights you'll like this.

If you can find a copy, buy it, i feel i paid over the odds a bit but more than worth a fair chunk of money, proper live sets, Villalobos imaginative as always and matched by Loco Dice. A great CD.

A superb mix from Loco Dice and a decent mix from Villalobos 10 April 2008
By disco_stu_likes_techno - Published on Amazon.com

This is a live mix, with Disc 1 mixed by Loco Dice and Disc 2 by Ricardo Villalobos. The sound quality is great for a live mix, but you can at some times hear the crowd cheering.

Disc 1 is superb, full of funky, upbeat minimal and tech house. The mixing and flow are great, with fantastic tracks by Nima Gorji, Bearback, Pig and Dan, and Loco Dice himself.

Disc 2 is decent - there are some great tracks in here by Sasse, Robag Whrume, John Tejada, Rob Mellow and Darth Vegas, but the problem with this disc is that the mixing is poor, especially on the first half of the disc, and the flow is not great. The tempo builds throughout the mix and the energy is great, but the tracks do not seem like they go together which takes away from my enjoyment of the mix.

I recommend this album for Disc 1 alone as I think fans and newcomers to Loco Dice's style will enjoy (and if you do like it, check out his Timewarp 2007 mix for some more subdued, trippy minimal).

As for Disc 2, it is certainly not as memorable as Disc 1, but worth a listen, especially for fans of Villalobos.

Excellent! 29 Sept. 2006

Wow.. Loco Dice and Ricardo Villalobos on two cds. As soon as I saw that i placed the order. The cover doesn't look very appealing though. CD 1(LOCO DICE) is straight up funky while CD 2 (RICARDO VILLALOBOS) is more spacey and cerebral. I love the way cd2 begins, it just sets the mood for the entire cd, deep and quirky. CD 1 is so groovy, tracks like funky voodoo mama and Perry Rodhan just blew my mind. I wish i wouldve been at that festival.

Exceptionally Good 18 Jan. 2007

...sometimes you find an album that you play over and over again but it never gets boring, the more you listen to it the better it gets, you hear more details and wonder - how the f* can you mix THAT live?

_CD1 by Loco Dice - is a solid mix from begining to end, mixed very well - each track flows into next one smootly. I would call it a journey.

_CD2 by Ricardo Villalobos - good too, except the last track, which should not be there because the one before it sounds like it finishes the CD. First 3 tracks are brilliant.

Thanks to technology both CDs sound extra crisp, sounds are deep and full, basses are strongly enriched - you notice that right eway.

People are screaming on the background from time to time, which adds proper mood.

Highly recomended.
