Guess What? Nottingham NHS is saving millions of £ by purchasing food from local farmers as reported in the news this morning. This is exactly what Woodin and Lucas said could happen if we move away from globalisation and move towards supporting local businesses. Many still think that Green policies are pie in the sky but this demonstrates that they are in fact offering viable alternatives. The book has some interesting statistics on world trade and the great EU "Swap Shop" and the negative effect that Globalisation has on our own and the 3rd world economy. The book suggests a range of alternatives including local currencies, ecological tax reform and that we need quite radical change in many other areas. All very relevant given the present economic mess we are in, the looming energy crisis and the climate. It does lack ideas/alternatives for developing Green entrepreneurship and enticing private investment into Green technology but then they are not entrepreneurs."
