The Greek's Bridal Bargain by Melanie Milburne
Harlequin Presents # 2538 - May 2006
The Greek Tycoons themed series
Home from boarding school and soon to start college, Bryony Mercer shared her first heated kiss with their family's housekeeper's son, Kane Kaproulias. This set off a chain of events that Bryony had no idea of until many years later. Bryony's father has lost everything due to his weakness for gambling and has placed himself in a position where he and Bryony's mother could be convicted of crimes. She's shocked to discover that Kane is now wealthy and has purchased all the Mercer assets and is about to pay off all of Bryony's father's debts under one condition, Bryony must marry him. She's positive this is all about revenge for the way Kane and his mother had been evicted by her father. Although Bryony has little love for her emotionally abusive father, she can't bear the thought of her mother suffering.
I really enjoyed this one. The innocent history between Bryony and Kane softens the harsh reality of Bryony's father's betrayal. Ms. Milburne allows us to see the man Kane has become and that revenge has nothing to do with their marriage. Bryony is a strong woman, who has vowed never to allow a man control her like her father controls her mother. And yet while she believes she hates him, she can't help but see that he's truly not a cruel man and this confuses her. Kane and Bryony make a great match, and I loved reading their story. Great chemistry too! Ms. Milburne has a lovely writing voice that made this story flow and come to life.
I was disappointed on the choice of male model for the cover. Though he is very attractive, he certainly doesn't look 32 or mature enough to be a Greek Tycoon. In fact, it looks as if he was a last minute stand in, as the shirt they've put him in appears two sizes too big.
