Romantic History 11 Feb. 2001
By Sam G - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
If you like Mary Stewart you will like this book. You get some true history with your romance not a bad combination. The background for this book is The War of Greek Independence that began in 1821 and ranges from Constantinople through the Greek Islands and mainland Greece. With all the European powers playing their hand at which side should win.
We journey with Phyllida Vannick as she escapes a harem, tries to locate her missing brother and save a sucidal, jilted English bridegroom. Hey it wouldn't be a romance without it.
I don't know how many times I've read this book and I still enjoy it everytime.

A Visit to the War of Greek Independence 3 Jan. 2008
By A. Arey - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Phyllida Vannick and her aunt escape from the Sultan and are rescued by a less than enthusiastic Brett Renshaw. Phyl is looking for her brother, who ran away from America to fight with Lord Byron. Brett, who is heartbroken by a ruthless woman back in England, begins to see Phyl in a new light, but she is enamoured with the Greek pirate captain, Alexandros.

This is a typical Jane Aiken Hodge romance- filled with historical background, believable characters and a well developed romance.

Phyllida escapes from the Sultan's harem 21 May 2014

Solid writing here from Jane Aiken Hodge. Set in the 1800's during an ongoing clash between Turks and Greeks, this novel takes place on a steamboat which runs in the Mediterranean Sea. I loved the relationships onboard the boat and the the two promising fellas were both interesting. This novel was fun and I loved the history. Hodge has always been worth it. No sexual scenes.
One of my Favorites 9 Mar. 2015

I read this book years ago and it has always been one of my favorites. Phyllida, the main character is strong, assertive and smart as well as rich and beautiful. She's a great role model for girls/women. Loved re-reading it!
