5.0 out of 5 stars Incomprehensibly, mystifyingly good, 12 April 2005
By A Customer
An intriguing collection of unexplained phenomena and inexplicable mystery. Holland and Doncaster managed to whirl me into a frenzy of bewilderment, as they recount unfathomable tales of unaccountable obfuscation. If you like to be thigh-deep in bewilderment and puzzlement, then this book has it all. Indescribably mystifying.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Mystery of the disappearing proofreaders..., 13 Nov 2009
By Barry S. Mcphee "marwood" (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I enjoy the occasional foray into the murky world of the unexplained, oh heck, I admit I've read lots of this type of book. I'm no expert, but I enjoy a well-written,well argued 'mysterious' proposition even if I don't always agree with the conclusions or explanations that the author may offer. What really ticks me off is poorly written, poorly researched and poorly proof-read tomes such as this waste of paper. So little care has been taken with this book that any reasonable assumptions that it does come up with are negated due to its overall 'shoddiness'. I knew things were coming unstuck as early as page 12, 'The Lost Battalion', when the authors placed the Dardanelles in France. It really was downhill from there. Previously discredited stories were once again trundled out replete with factual inaccuracies and exaggerations which would seem more at home in the pages of the 'National Enquirer'. From being a frustration this lack of care soon became a bore as I lost any trust in the sincerity of the authors. The overall effect being an unforgivable insult to the intelligence of the reader.
