I've read lots of books and seen many a documentary about Ali, but this book is by far the best insight into the man and the boxer.

When you've read descriptions of events surrounding his life in the ring and out of it, you have an image or feeling about it, but when you read the decription from Ali's perspective, it puts a very different light on it. I thought I knew a lot about him as he's been a hero since childhood - After reading HIS story, I have even more respect for him.

There are some good copies of this book around, so if you're fan or simply want to have a good read, then make sure you get it. It's quite simplistic in style, but you don't need any fancy styles when the subject is Ali...enough said!

The difference between this book and all the others found in the book shop is that Muhammad Ali has first hand input, rather than being a subject for an author to create "a tribute" to The Greatest by repeating often told anecdotes coupled by the same old pics.
Ali plots his own rise to the title and the change within him as he turned to the Nation of Islam and became the most notorious individual the world over. He talks about the build up to the big fights with Liston, Frazier and Foreman, as well as going into details about the draft and life in exile, how he inspired and became motivated.
If you are serious about boxing at then this is a must read. This is a book about real content and emotion, not second hand rehashed stories, or pictorial review of a career in and out of the ring made by so-called close modern day writers/friends.

Muhammed Ali was my childhood hero. A black man who had made it in a USA very different from the one that we know today. There have been great fighters that I have seen; Tyson , Formena, Lennox Lewis etc but Ali was something else. To watch his videos was a must but to read the book and interpret the man was even better. Though I am not a Muslim, I find that his description of Islam very compelling and his chats with Foreman about religion reads like another boxing match. One of the best books even if you are not a boxing fan
