Fronted by the flamboyant Boy George, Culture Club was one of the super groups of the 1980s, and Greatest Moments charts the group's defining compositions, as well as a selection of George's solo hits. When the group first arrived on the UK charts in 1982 with their number one debut "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?", Boy George's androgynous image threatened to undermine the group's musical potential. However, as Greatest Moments highlights, Culture Club have always been much more than eye shadow and hair extensions: their songs are a unique mixture of George's husky tones, reggae beats, and orchestral melodies. Twelve years after their split, the group reformed in 1998 to tour and to record new material. "Greatest Moments" was the reunion album for the legendary eighties band Culture Club. This is a greatest hits album which also features some new tracks. Everybody was expecting the new tracks to have a real dance based sound to them given the fact that Boy George is now one of the world's biggest DJ's, however the new tracks have a mellower reggae based feel to them as is highlighted by the track "Just Wanna Be Loved". The rest of the album includes some of the best pop moments of the eighties such as on the tracks "Church Of The Poison Mind", "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me", "It's a Miracle", "Karma Chameleon" and "I'll Tumble 4 Ya". Overall it's a great album.

this has got to be one of the best albums of all time. i really feel as though i can identify with their lyrics because they are so honest, yet culture club are anything but deep. they're easy to listen to and extremely upbeat. i purchased this album not so long ago and it hasn't been off the cd player since. my personal favourites are 'clock of the heart', and 'move away'. i love the catchiness and funky rythms of both tracks. there is not one weak link on the album. all the songs are brilliant and cleverly produced. i would strongly recommend this album to all the other culture club fans out there.

Being an ardent fan of both Culture Club and Boy George, let me confess that I own all of their original releases and many of their Best Of collections and that I love them all, including this one. This acknowledged, I must nevertheless admit that my approval of this particular compilation is somewhat qualified by comparison. The first thirteen tracks are those that can usually be found on almost any collection of the group's hits and, consequently, represent some of their most popular and accessible songs. What makes this cd unusual are the five rare remixes that comprise tracks fourteen through eighteen. The Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Church of the Poison Mind, Time Clock of the Heart, and the Kharma Chameleon Giants in Reo remixes are all excellent renditions of some of Culture Club's finest music. Each one manages to transform the familiar lyrics and rhythms of these classics in a fashion which highlights, rather than distorts, the energy and emotion so evident in the original tracks. Unfortunately, track fifteen, the Ram Jam Kharma Chameleon mix, is less successful than these other four. Somehow, the alteration in tempo and its failure to mesh smoothly with the vocals erases that undefinable something that made the first 1983 Kharma Chameleon release one of my all-time favorite songs. On the whole, therefore, I believe this cd is definitely worth the purchase for the avid fan or obsessive collector, like myself, in search of new versions of old favorites or some fine rare remixes, but perhaps not for those casual listeners only looking for a moderately comprehensive collection of Culture Club's most familiar hits.
Get it for FIVE new house remixes that kick some serious...

If you're a CC fan, you already own all these songs already, but...get this Japanese rare Import CD if only for the FIVE, yup, FIVE amazing new REMIXES tacked onto the end of the CD, featuring stunning additional production by KINKY ROLAND, YUKIHIRO FUKOTOMI, and more - killer stuff for the true CD/Boy fan/collector alike!
