This sort of thing really makes me angry. There is nothing in the title to suggest that these are not the original tracks. The only tracks I'd ever heard of are all re-recorded. What a total waste of money.
It ought to be competely obvious from the title that a CD contains re-recorded and not original tracks. Perhaps including the words "(Re-Recorded)" in the title should be mandatory in these cases. Total rip-off.
This is a pleasing mix of old and new songs recorded by Alvin in the mid-nineties. The re-recording of the hits works well. My Coo Ca Choo, Good Love Can Never Die and I Feel Like Buddy Holly in particular are the highlights of the old songs. The newer material makes the album, though. I Gotta Do It Again and Don't Trust That Guy are the best two tracks on the cd, while Suddenly and Just To Hear Your Voice are two excellent ballads that prove Alvin's versatility. Included as a bonus track is a duet version of My Coo Ca Choo, sung with Jo Brand. What a sound!

3.0 out of 5 starsNOT THE ORIGINALS29 Sep 2004

If it is the original recordings of Alvin's great 70's material you are after, then don't buy this CD.
I had my suspicions on seeing the title that this would be so and the previous reviewer failed to mention the fact, that these are all re-recordings!
But hey, if you are a Stardust fan then you'll still enjoy this, the songs are good and bring the memories flooding back and if you are lucky enough to have seen the man perform live, as I did in the UK a few years back then you'll know he can still do the biz.
So again if you want originals look elsewhere, otherwise just enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 starsUNIQUE POWER POP25 May 2003
By Pieter Uys - Published on Amazon.com

Alvin Stardust was part of the UK glamrock wave in the seventies but never broke through to the US market. His sound is quite special though, high powered riffs, brilliant guitar work, a soulful voice and exceptionally tuneful melodic songs. He had a knack for integrating those familiar 50s rock riffs with the glam guitar sound of the 70s. Most of his greatest hits are included here, like the wonderful My Coo Ca Choo, Jealous Mind, Red Dress, You You You and the gorgeous Pretend with its inspirational lyrics. A bonus is the duet version of My Coo Ca Choo. This great album just goes to show that some of the best music is buried in obscurity. If you like tuneful high powered, fast paced pop-rock, you'll love the sound of Stardust.
