No denying the quality of the songs on this album. If you're curious about getting a Goo Goo Dolls album for the first time then this would be the logical choice. However, it's not perfect becasue there are a few big omissions - two of Goo Goo Dolls best songs are missing from this collection, "Naked" and "Cuz You're Gone". And there are others missing too. But then again, Goo Goo Dolls are such a good band that not all their best songs could possibly fit onto just one CD. They could have surely released a double CD album to compensate for this but I did make one final observation - the "Volume 1 - The Singles" part of the album description, which suggests further volumes at a later date. I would love one with B-sides and rarities!

I have to confess that whilst I was aware of The Goo Goo Dolls when I was growing up (particularly songs such as Iris), my route back into them was hearing 'Better Days' used in a trailer for a rom-com starring Jennifer Aniston (How many has she done?!) and thinking I like that only then to discover it was a Goo Goo Dolls song. As a Greatest Hits album it's more difficult to review. It's not filled with the same direction as normal album but rather a collection of what The Goo Goo Dolls do best which is to write songs that change your emotional state of mind regardless of where you are or what you're feeling. I've only had this CD for a couple of weeks and to be honest, it hasn't come off my stereo or iPod. If you're someone that likes to feel the hairs on the back of their neck stand up when they listen to music then this is your answer. Bon Appetit!

If you are considering buying this CD and use MP3 and similar formats for your iPod or Walkman etc, then think again. The music is encrypted and so you need to play the music solely from the CD. A waste of my money and I am not going to pay to download in MP3 format and thus pay their royalties twice, but this is what you need to do Avoid buying this one. Stick to pay per download...

I bought this on the strength of Dizzy, Slide and Iris, largely because it was on offer. I was blown away by the songs I didn't know, especially Broadway, which is a fantastic track. A definite collection of great hits.

Unusually for a greatest hits album the majority of great songs are on here, true fans will obviously buy the back catalogue (I have several of their other albums but bought this so had an album to take in the car). If you bought this and 'What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, Art & Commerce' then you will cover pretty much all the important goo bases.

This album is awesome, especially for those wanting a break into the Dolls music. Its more mainstream than their earlier albums, but thats fine if you like the songs off 'let love in', and their newsest single 'real'.
As a volume one its works, admitedly if it was a stand alone album without the volume 2, it would have failed in portraying some of the dolls best songs, many of which are missing. (naked, long way down, two days in february, bullet proof etc, but thankfully volume two includes all the rarities and B sides).

I question the point of this release as apart from the re-recorded version of Name and one new track all the songs are from the previous three studio albums. Why they chose to re-record Name is beyond me as the original is far superior. Also, why no tracks from A Boy Named Goo and Superstar Carwash? This is just a cheap, badly put together compilation of their most recent and commercial songs. Nothing wrong with the tracks that are on here but ignoring half of your catalogue does not make a great overview of your career so far.
The other negative is the sound quality. Appalling. The 'Let Love In' album is one of the most compressed CDs on the market with digital clipping so harsh that it renders the sound almost unlistenable. This new compilation just continues this trend by making the sound harsh, painful and devoid of any musicality. One of the worst discs I have ever heard. If this is how an artist feels their art should be portrayed then they really should question their faith in their abilities. A real shame because the music itself is great.
