Amazon.co.uk Review

After the frequently dark themes of his Warner Bros. years, James Taylor lightened his approach in the 1980s and 1990s with gentle affirmations like "That's Why I'm Here" and "Shed a Little Light". Greatest Hits Volume 2, a sequel to the 1976 disc that's sold 11 million copies, covers this material with a generous 16 cuts. Unfortunately, the work here is uneven, blurring together thanks to the often too-polite production and a couple too many oldies covers--"Handy Man" is exquisite, "Up on the Roof" and "Everyday" somnolent. A handful of gems do prevail, though; especially notable are "Secret o' Life" (perhaps Taylor's truly wisest song ever and "(I've Got To) Stop Thinkin' 'Bout That." --Rickey Wright

A very much welcomed and long awaited addition to the JT collection. With 16 enjoyable tracks and something for everyone, this CD gives an all round whistle stop tour of James's last 8 albums. Classic tracks as Secret o'Life, Handyman, Your Smiling Face and of course Up on the Roof balance well with the recent works especially ' Hourglass ' .Leland Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel, Waddy Wachtel and Dan Dugmore feature alongside Billy Payne, Bob Mann and Carlos Vega with the much enjoyed vocals of David Lasley, Valerie Carter, Rosemary Butler and the amazing Arnold McCuller. Other delightful tracks include Stevie Wonder and Yo-Yo Ma.

This album adds a sparkle to anyones collection....check out JT's re-mastered back catalogue ( on Amazon ) of course! and give yourself a treat.

Having been a died in the wool JT fan since Isle of Wight times,I am more aware of the lasting joy that his music and charisma has given to me and my lady. But why o why do they keep on trotting out the same old favorites in different packages.I would be the last person to critisize JT as an artist but perhaps the marketing men have got their fingers in the pie. When all said and done though,as a collection it is good, very good, depends on your mood.It also saves having to shuffle CD's. Rollon the new album

I have had James Taylors Greatest Hits Vol 1 for many years and it is one I have never got bored withand listern to on a regular basis. So when I saw Vol 2 at a very reasonable price it was a no-brainer for me, I had to give it a shot. Obviously all the major hits are on vol1 but there is more than enough on vol 2 to suggest I will still be enjoying it in years to come so why not give it a try?.
