Billy Joel shows that he has lost none of his talent for making beautiful music. My favourites on this CD are:
An Innocent Man (1983): A tender anthem about the hurt contained in the broken promises of love, and contains a promise that the writer is different.
A Matter Of Trust (1986): A more upbeat rendition of a similar theme . A great fell-good song.
Baby Grand (1983): A superb duo with Ray Charles.
This Is The Time: (1983): One of my favourite, favourites. I keep playing it again and again. Here Billy Joel displays the incredible power of the voice at it's best.
Leningrad (1989): A powerful ballad about the Cold War, focuses on a Russian friend of Billy Joel, living in the then Leningrad (now thank the Lord, St Petersburg), as well as the lives of Joel's generation in the USA. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes when I hear the lines - `The greatest happiness he ever found
Was making Russian children glad
And children living in Leningrad'
Here we are examining the tragedy the tragedy of the hell on earth that was the enormous prison called the Soviet Union. And we are reminded that children lived there! What about the children who needed what all children need?
We Didn't Start The Fire (1989): A fantastic `makes you wanno dance' song tracing the heady years of 1949-1989, from the perspective of the Baby boomer generation.
`We didn't start the fire'
No we didn't light it
But we trying to fight it'
The haunting love song `And So It Goes' (1983) and the exquisite Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel) (1993) which also makes my eyes moist.
And of course the dreamlike `River of Dreams' (1993).

If you've ever listen to or read an interview of Billy Joel, you will know that he doesn't like compilations ("I made albums"), but his record company keeps on releasing collections, especially since he's not make any rock albums since 1993!
This volume 3 opus can only be considered as a complement to volumes 1 & 2.
For a compilation with a great selection of remastered songs, I recommend you choose between "The Ultimate Collection" and "The Essential Billy Joel" depending on your personal favourites. If you buy "Greatest Hits volume 3" you will find you want to complete it with "Greatest Hits volumes 1 & 2". That's not a bad thing (good selection too), but that means buying 2 (if not 3) items (compare the prices). Though, you can buy the 3 Greatest Hits volumes all together, look for: "Complete Hits Collection" CD box set which may also contain a 4th disc with Q&A and 5 unreleased live songs (`hard day's night'). [Note that there are more tracks on the CD versions of Greatest Hits, compared to the LP formats.] Importantly though, the original release "Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II" from 1985 contains 5 edited/shorter versions, namely `just the way you are', `my life', `big shot', `pressure' and `tell her about it'; if you want those in their album length, make sure you purchase the remastered set from 1998 (which comes with `don't ask me why' and no `honesty'!) bearing in mind that `say goodbye to hollywood' will not be a live version on the '98 set (and possibly onwards re-issues).
Saying that, if you are willing to purchase 3 CDs, do consider the "Greatest Hits" indeed. "Greatest Hits" Volumes 1, 2, 3 are a chronological review (1983 split between vol. 2 & 3) and mostly made of singles.

I'm a huge Billy Joel fan and believe that this album catches some of his catchiest pop hits of the 80s and 90s. "Keeping the Faith" is the first track and from there it goes right through some old memories with Billy. You can clearly see his maturity in his later songs, the tone being bit darker and edgier as the earlier compositions. I can highly recommend this album. Fans will love this collection immensely.

Haven't hear his music for sometime and seeing the documentary of his shows in Russia in the 80s made me get this album. Leningrad track very moving after seeing the concert on TV.
