Whilst there is very little one can say about any ABBA album (Greatest Hits or otherwise) to add to what everybody knows already - namely; sheer brilliance, it has to be said that ABBA surprised many with this one by adding four non-hit tracks to this compilation. Okay, so there had been several included on the first 'Greatest Hits' album release that had not been singles in the UK - but they had been hits elsewhere, but here on this, we have four, including a couple of 'B' sides. The four in question are: 'Rock Me', 'Eagle', 'I Wonder (Departure)' and 'Thank You For The Music'.
'Rock Me' had been a surprise, since it was a song that was already four years old and had a been a 'B' side, and so one could have said 'why now'? 'Eagle' had been featured in 'ABBA - The Movie', and 'I Wonder (Departure)' had been a 'B' side also two years earlier. Of course it is well documented that ABBA's only mistake in an otherwise 'faultless' career of decision-making, was the failure to release the last one of the four 'Thank You For The Music' as a single back in 1977 when it had been recorded. The record had been well in demand as a single back then, and would have most definitely given ABBA another chart-topper had they released it. As it was, we were to wait almost seven years for them to finally issue it as a single in late 1983, but it was too late, and the public just did not buy it... I guess they just got tired of waiting.
However, as with all ABBA's albums; you will want to play this over and over again, and sing along, because we all seem to know the words without having to learn them!
Wonderful stuff!
