Biography

Real pop stars are more than just popular; they are barometers for an era, providing the images for the world's memories of a particular time. Look back to the 1960s and we see those Beatles smiles and monochrome suits. Cast you mind back to the late 1990s and it is those Girls, those songs, that dress.

Music snobs might sniff at the comparison to the Fab Four but all those Beatles ... Read more in Amazon's Spice Girls Store

Product Description

Product Description

1 CD – all of the hits. Fifty five million records sold, an astonishing 9 UK no. 1 singles, three back-to-back Christmas no. 1 singles and with "Wannabe" the biggest selling single ever by an all female group, the Spice Girls have very little to prove.

BBC Review

Five girls, unashamed to spout opinions and punch their stamp onto everything, took the whole world by storm when they unleashed "Wannabe" on an unsuspecting audience back in 1996. Ginger, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Posh created their own revolution before Geri fled, they went a bit R&B and everything went silent.

Now in 2007, they're all back together, claiming they're still bezzie mates and finally releasing a greatest hits CD. Featuring all of their singles, as well as advert soundtrack "Move Over" and two new tracks, this compilation actually makes you realise that while their success was down to the whole package, their songs were in fact really, really good.

A Spice ballad was mainly for Christmas, and only a cold heart could fail to love their first festive #1, the shimmering "2 Become 1". The heartbroken post-Geri "Goodbye" provided the girls with their last really good single and, despite it being released mid-summer, "Viva Forever's" layered vocals and fairy-filled video has stood the test of time.

It's not often that a band manages to do both ballads and dancefloor stompers well, but this is no ordinary band. "Spice Up Your Life" actually sounds better now than it did back in '97 and their piece de resistance "Who Do You Think You Are" still manages to fill dancefloors. And don't let's forget "Stop", the only Spice Girl single that failed to reach #1. Sounding like it could have come straight out of the 60s, this is one song we'd love to hear a Mark Ronson rendition of.

The obligatory two new songs hark back to the days of Spice and Spiceworld rather than their more urban third album, Forever. "Headlines" has a classic Spice ballad feel while "Voodoo" ramps up the fun and flavour of "Spice Up Your Life".

If you were one of the many haters of the Spice Girls back in the day, then this CD isn't going to change your mind about them. But if you grew up watching their every move, then this is a slice of nostalgia that miraculously still sounds fresh today. --Talia Kraines

5.0 out of 5 stars LET THE MEMORIES FLOOD BACK! 11 Nov 2007
By Mr. Nathan Armstrong VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Would there ever be a time a for a spice reunion? its true its pretty much formulated pop that was of a certain time and place! but oh what a time!

When the fivesome hit the music scene in the summer of 96 they where so fresh and in your face.."wannabe" wasnt a life-changing song vocally or lyrically but brought a breath of fresh air to the music scene...not just here but round the world! from schoolgirls to pop fans..to the parents and the odd grandparent..we all lapped it up!

we dressed up as our favourite spice...learnt the dance routines..sang along! this album will bring back so many memories!

the girls crafted pure pop and gave some great tracks...and marketed themselves to perfection! we had dolls, writing paper..even crisps!

although a lot of the songs are throwaway...the harmonies and blending vocals of all the girls from the strongest (mel c) to the weakest(geri)! to the dancing..but they gave great energy both live and on record!

you have the immense wonderful ballads "2 become 1" and "viva forever" the pure pop of "stop" and " who do you think you are" the dance workout "spice up your life" the sentimental slush of "mama" "goodbye" and the new single "headlines" and the great rnb floorfiller "holler"

apart from "headlines" the only new track is voodoo" which has a bit more ummph! but still fails to capture the glory of the heyday!

still every song will remind you of a special time or a crazy time. sort of what were you doing when this was out...where were you when you first heard this!

maybe a whole new generation will discover the girls! but i doubt it will be like like the abba revival as the sound has aged!

Format:Audio CD
Love them or hate them, the Spice Girls have made some of the best pop tunes of the last decade.

Every pop music fan should own this collection of killer tunes. They're really the ABBA of the 90's.

Essential.

4.0 out of 5 stars IT'S THE SPICE GIRLS 14 Nov 2007
By Ash W
Format:Audio CD
I remember being a huuuge Spice Girl fan when they were around the first time. I was like 12? Baby Spice was always my fave. Anyway...im happy they have released this real classic collection! Well...apart from songs Let Love lead The Way and Holler. But they have had 9 number ones and its just good to see the day where they would be together again isn't it? Im not that keen on Headlines...but it is for Children In Need so i don't mind. But, isn't Voodoo a really good song? I really hope they release it as a single. They'd be mad not to. And for now i enjoy listening to all the other tunes...my fave classic SG songs are 2 Become 1 and Say You'll Be There...incredible video's too. All of their video's are. Welcome back girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blast from the past 14 Nov 2007
Format:Audio CD
As a guy, I admitted it openly that the Spice Girls were awesome with five funky personalities to match their voices and their insane image and phrase "girl power!" My favourites were Emma and Mel B though Mel C's vocals are definitely the strongest.

Okay, so their songs aren't classics but you cannot deny that they changed the face of pop forever. They are the biggest British band since the Beatles, and no you All Saints or Westlife will never be as big around the globe. The sell out tour proves it.

Why should we care? We shouldn't, but in a way this nostalgic album makes us. There will be at least one track on here that will have touched you in one way or another.

Cheesy and in your face is the name of the game when you hear "Wannabe" but how can you deny that it wasn't catching? It was their biggest number 1. You have great ballards "2 become 1" and the powerful "Viva Forever". You have the emotionally charged "Goodbye" and the equally awesome "Mama".
Dance your feet away with "Spice Up Your Life" or feel the RNB factor in "Holler". "Too Much" their second Xmas number one or even "Say You'll be there", the song where Mel C showed off her vocal talents. And you can bounce away with "Who Do You Think You Are" or jump around to "Stop!"

There's the catchy "Move Over" from the Pspsi add and two new songs, including "Voodoo" which is really catchy.

So go on, give it a try and bring back those memories...you know you wanna!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spice Is Right! 11 Nov 2007
Format:Audio CD
At last the greatest hits album we have all been waiting for from the best and biggest selling girl group ever! It features there 9 number one's, including Wannabe, 2 Become 1, Spice Up Your Life and Goodbye, plus there number 2 hit Stop, the Pepsi promotional single Move Over and 2 new tracks, Voodoo and there great new single for Children in Need, Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) As I write this, Headlines has entered the top 20 in the charts on download sales alone, so you know its going to be a massive future hit when it is released on 19th November with all sales going to charity.
This album is simply good quality pop music from the 90's, along with a few new gems, so make sure you buy it today!
