I grew up in the 60's and like all my contemporaries bought the records released by the early 60's US artists (like Duane Eddy, Elvis, Bobby Vee etc.) and also migrated in part to the 60's group invasion that took over the charts in the mid to late 60's around the world.
When I saw this absolute bargain on Amazon, I remembered the fact that Kenny Ball released so many good records that were great trad' jazz that had melodies, rhythm and most of all were good fun. On top of all that he topped the US charts and other around the world with. "Midnight in Moscow" a real nostalgic return to the 60's for me, and covered and provided new interpretations of songs like "Sukiyaki" and the "Green Leaves of Summer".
However, looking back, IO think his real achievement was to have made so many hit records of the Trad Jazz genre against all the odds when no one else could do it, apart form the fleeting one-offs of Acker bilk and Terry Lightfoot. Well done, Kenny, a good collection and great value!
