Review Our first introduction to the boy from Southampton came at the height of the garage scene and Rewind, his collaboration with the Artful Dodger. This was the first of three consecutive #1s with Fill Me In and the US top ten hit 7 Days propelling him from the underground and helping make debut album, Born to Do It, one of the most popular of 2000.
Although success continued with club track, What's Your Flava, other big hits like Hidden Agenda or Don't You Love Me No More were completely unmemorable. Teaming up with Sting on Rise And Fall (unfortunately released at the same time as a very similar Sugababes single) endeared him to the Radio 2 audience, but left his original fans wondering where his heart lay. Was Craig now a super smooth mainstream artist or did he still have some loyalty to his heritage?
Kano brought back the urban vibes on 2007's This Is The Boy as Craig returned looked buffed up and more in control of his music. Using David Bowie's Let's Dance on Hot Stuff was a floorfilling move, and 6 Of 1 Thing continued that party vibe, albeit not much to the chart buying public's interest. Two new tracks attempt to recapture his audience with Jim Beanz from Timbaland Productions serving up the European dance vibes of Insomnia and Tinchy Stryder working on Where's Your Love using a garage chorus that will be familiar to many.
Serving as a reminder to the songs Craig had in the early 2000s, this Greatest Hits is at very least a fun listen. Craig David was a great pop star, who simply needs to take some time to rediscover his love of music and win back the hearts of the nation. Celebrity Big Brother is calling! --Talia Kraines
